The owner of the Plex Media Sever must allow the account to download
The user who wants to download needs Plex Pass subscription
Must be running Plex Media Server version 1.16.3 or newer
Both the Plex Media Server and the Plex desktop app must be signed in to a Plex account
A fellow PMS owner and I are exploring this option. Both of our accounts have Allow downloads enabled. Both of us have Plex Pass subscriptions. Both of us are running the latest PMS. Both of us are signed in. No download buttons or menu items are being shown when either I look at content on his server or he looks at content on my server.
Plex Media Player is not a supported app for Downloads.
Nor is the Web app.
You need to use “Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux” or one of the “mobile” Apps.
Sorry, the nomenclature I used was wrong. I don’t have Plex Media Player. I’m on Linux. AFAICT there is no Plex Media Player for Linux - there were only Windows and Mac listed on that page. By Plex Media Player I really mean Plex Web.
It seems extremely short sited to allow downloads but then restrict them to a tiny phone which generally doesn’t have gobs of space and does not allow Plex Web to download things onto a desktop with potentially much more storage or perhaps access to remote filesystems on a NAS. Any particular reason why this is not allowed?
