I’ve been trying out HTPC on Linux and it’s a very nice interface.
However, I notice that it’s missing the Download option like the normal desktop version.
This Reddit thread from a couple of years ago says it’s not available, but I would personally find it useful. Any idea if there’s a way to enable it, or if it’s a planned feature?
If you installed it, please try to add your local server via “manually defined server”.
Why? Because i want to verify a issue i facing with plex-htpc.
I cant add my server and receive in the logs a CORS error:
I want to know if i am the only person, or if this is a general problem with plex-htpc player.
By download option, I mean download media stored on the Plex server to the device running the HTPC client. This is a Plex Premium feature, available in Plex Desktop and mobile.
HTPC does not have the option to download media as you correctly surmised. The reason is while the backend code to support downloads is there, there is quite a bit of UI work necessary to support downloads. The UI in HTPC is primarily designed to be used as a 10ft interface (viewing on a TV across the room). So between HTPC and Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux, we chose to implement the UI for downloads in the latter and not the former and implementing it in the latter severely reduces the use-case for it being in the former.
That is the current state and I can’t really speak to future plans.
I understand that Plex HTPC was primarily made for TVs and Home Theaters, but it’s getting very popular for PC handhelds because it has the perfect UI for it. It would be good for the Plex team to at least consider implementing the UI for watching downloaded content, since the backend is already there. A lot of people would use this function for sure and the people that won’t use it, they won’t even notice it.
