Plex HTPC doesn’t support Downloads.
Only Plex desktop does.
Thank you sir! Do we know if there’s a plan to get this on the roadmap, if it isn’t already?
Plex HTPC only exists because there are already Plex apps for TV devices. It uses all the code of the UI portion of these and then uses mpv as the player engine.
So existing components are used to build the app to keep development costs in check.
And TV devices usually are not suited for downloads. That’s why Plex HTPC doesn’t support them either, and very likely never will.
The only app on PC platforms which does support downloads is “Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux”. If you can get this one running on the Steamdeck, it might be a way.
Or if there were an Android emulator, you could use the Plex app for Android mobile.
So it looks like regular plex now works well with the steamdeck - Hurrah!
And I can download media (double hurrah!)…it goes to the folder:
/home/deck/.var/app/tv.plex.PlexDesktop/data/plex/Plex Media Server/sync/1/
The… but… I tried to change the folder, to download the movies in a ssd I have plugged to the dock instead by creating a symlink (rename the “1” folder to “2” and create a link calling it 1…
https://support.plex.tv/articles/downloads-on-desktop/
Plex complains that it doesn’t have write access to the folder ![]()
Does anyone knows how to fix that? Thanks!
