Download Playlists, Folders or Selections on Desktop App

I tried to find a definitive answer for this before I buy the lifetime Plex Pass but couldn’t. I’d like to download an entire playlist onto my laptop for offline use similar to the capabilities of sync for mobile devices.

I know I can achieve this by bringing the files onto my laptop via the os file browser but then I’d have to play them through another player. Trying to dump iTunes all together.

Is this possible via the Mac Desktop app or Plex Amp app? I’m only really looking to download/sync the music.

You can certainly download movies from your server to the Plex for Mac desktop app.
Plex Media Player does not have that feature (at least as of version 2.58 – I did not yet get my hands on version 3.0.0). Plex Media Player is focusing to be used in a HTPC setup, not necessarily as a pure desktop player.

Plexamp can download songs/playlists/mixes/… for up to 24 hours of playback time.

I don’t have access to the Plex Amp app… does anyone if it’s possible to download a music playlist in the DESKTOP version of the Plex Amp app?

Yes it is.
If the playlist is longer than 24 hours, Plex will pick a subset of that playlist.
