Using Plexamp on three separate iOS devices but same version (4.2.1). I am choosing maximum quality of up to 320, but it is downloading at only 128 Opus regardless of which conversion setting I choose.
If I choose automatic or no conversion settings, it will download the original bitrate of the files, FLAC or AAC. I take it that only downloading at 128 is not expected behaviour if I am choosing to covert at higher bitrates. I am doing this on home WiFi, if that matters.
I am aware that the Opus codec is meant to be transparent at 128.
What I’m seeing is that the cap on the conversion music quality is what the streaming music quality is. So e.g. if you’re like “please convert everything above 128 kbps” the conversion bitrate is capped to this.
I’m not sure that makes sense, but if you raise your quality setting to e.g. 256 it should also allow the conversion bitrate to reach 256.
Thanks @elan. The strangest thing. I have tried going up one rung on the quality ladder at a time. Using 16/44 FLAC sources, if I go up to and including 320, the downloads are all Opus 128. Going up to 1 Mbps, I get downloads of 16/44 FLAC. maybe that’s expected behaviour at 1 Mbps, I dunno. I have also tried downloading playlists that have a combination of FLAC and AAC files, results again in 128.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. I can try again but rebooting my Plex server this time, in case that makes any odds.
Or maybe I could just get over myself and acknowledge that Opus 128 is all I need…
