[Bug] If the selected download quality is less than the source quality, it will always transcode to 128kbps

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2701
Player Version#: 3.2.1

Download quality in Plex Amp settings is not honored. If the quality of the source audio file is lower than this setting, it will download as expected without transcoding. However if the quality of the source audio is higher than the setting, it will always transcode to 128kbps regardless of the selected quality.

For example: I have the download quality set to 256kbps and I download a source mp3 at 320kbps. The quality of the downloaded file is always 128kbps

I believe this is intended. When transcoding, Plex uses 128 kbps opus. The difference in sound quality between 128, 256, or 320 kbps opus is nearly indistinguishable, so transcoding higher than 128 shouldn’t be needed. The regular Plex apps do the same thing.

Ok makes sense. Thanks for clarifying.

I think the messaging in the app could be a bit more clear because it seems like you’re setting the target bitrate rather than the threshold for transcoding vs original.

You can change the target bitrate separately under Advanced - Conversion Bitrate

FWIW, nobody needs more than 128 kbps Opus.
