Have only needed to use offline downloads this past summer and when i have no cellular access to log into my plex server it always. shows “sorry something went wrong” and no video. If i restore my cellular network or wifi no issue with playing all of my content. Whats going on with this? my Netflix account has no issues when i am offline on same device.
Another “small issue” is that the thumb nails for movies/shows are all scrambled, i have about 40 movies and two TV series downloaded. The names hold true thumbnails mean nothing, is there a local cache to rebuild on my iphone like the plex server has?
So i found this article explaining that even if you have “downloaded media” you must be logged into both your plex account and the server in order for this to work? https://support.plex.tv/articles/downloads-for-ios/
can anybody confirm that an internet connection is in fact needed to view downloaded content? being as i am planning on a number of “out of internet range trips” this is important for me ramp up on other options…
I’ve been experimenting with downloads on iOS recently, and just tested this. No, you don’t need to be online to view downloaded items. I tried it in aeroplane mode and also after disconnecting from the network (but leaving the wi-fi switched on), and the downloads played fine.
