At at a loss here. Plex will download all metadata properly but not select the movie poster. If I hit edit and go to poster they are all there to select from.
I have messed with agent setting switching from plex movie to the movie db. Remove all local media assets from agents/ Heck removed everything that I could remove and same result.
Each time I added the movie (after the plex dance) it would pull up the generic picture from somewhere in the movie almost like a screen shot.
This has worked flawlessly since I started using plex way back when. for the past maybe 3 weeks it just stopped selecting the poster
I would like to say that I’ve been experiencing the same issue. I’m currently running Version 1.18.2.2058, haven’t yet updated to 1.18.3.2111. This has also started happening a couple weeks ago. All metadata will download, including posters and other images, but they won’t set on the item. Have to manually edit the item to set it.
Here is the log of what happens while the matching is supposed to happen (during the setting of the poster):

However I attempted this with no success. I’ve also seen a few articles mentioning DNS as a potential issue, DNS is working fine inside the container (I’m running this within docker using the linuxserver.io image). This is proven by the fact that I can manually select the posters as well.
All other metadata is pulled fine, I’m also having no issue with TV series, only movies. I’ve fiddled with the various agent settings, within the library as well as changed the order of preference within the agent settings themselves - also to no success.
This issue is also happening on my server, started probably 2-3 weeks ago, have tried heaps of different thing to fix it but no luck so far, hopefully they fix it in a future update.
I’m also having this issue. Files that are being added to the library are using a screenshot from the movie as the poster. If I click ‘Edit’ on the item, the posters are already there but just not selected.
I wonder if it just the 10 of us or if there is more? Anyone seen any improvement with this? I think there have been 2 updates since my original post and still having to manually edit and select the poster.
Follow up. I didn’t install anything, or change anything. I just deleted everything out of the Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Data folder and restarted the server. Next movie I added, the image added automatically.
This resolved the issue for me as well. Oddly enough, I still didn’t have an HTTPCaches folder after clearing the data directory, but removing the contents of that directory, restarting Plex, and refreshing metadata on a problematic movie updated the poster.
I did the same. Stopped plex docker, deleted everything out of Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Data folder and restarted.
I’ve not tried the above solution, however I’ve been away for a few days and noticed on my return that movies had been going in with posters. I had previously attemped to clear a few of these folders with no success (although specific folders, not the whole lot). Perhaps something got fixed on the PMS or agent side which happened to coincide with the fix. I’ll bear the proposed fix in mind though - thanks!
