Same here on Movie libraries for me. Issues playing on iOS/tvOS clients and only when starting a movie from the beginning. Been able to replicate the following…
When a movie fails to start in one of those clients, I am able to successfully start it in the web browser client. I let it play for a bit in the browser (or seek to some point in the movie). Then resume in the iOS/tvOS client, it plays perfectly fine from that point with instant playback. But in the same instance if I choose the option to play from the beginning instead of resuming, it fails.
I unfortunately have not been able to figure out or replicate what determines what movies this happens to.
I confirm the issue is on Plex 7.25 for playing sync’ed music (download does not work for me when enabled). It happens when playing albums and individual songs in the albums for most of my library (no playlist configured). I’ve found a few albums I can play, but maybe less than 5% of my library. Trying to play an unavailable album after one that plays normally does not do the trick.
Just a follow up to my post. I installed Infuse on my devices and any Movies that have issues playing via a Plex client (iOS/tvOS), work perfectly in Infuse.
Really disappointed by Plex drop in quality: Download does not work, Sync fails, and I can’t play my music anymore!
While these blocking issues have been reported for some time now, Plex does not seem to react.
It is rather frustrating, especially when you paid for a Plex Pass.
It won’t be long until I look for other software to play my music…
I haven’t used Plex for a while but have trip tomorrow so wanted to download some box sets and movies for flights. Went to play downloads on my iPad air and I got the same message “Couldn’t retrieve the play queue for this item”.
I’m not overly techie but tried to find a difference in the files that had the problem, predominately they were .mkv files. I tried converting them to mp4 and it did the trick.
I used smart convertor app on mac.
Thinking I’ve got it sussed I then tested a few more but got same problem with existing mp4 files, (only tv not films for some reason?)
I then ran them through smart convertor (still set up to output in mp4) and they now work.
Hope this helps someone, I’ve no idea why it worked or what i’m doing but worked for me.
Okay, this [the error] now started to show for all newly downloaded (sync, not downloads) media. Movies and TV same. (Currently see the error on everything on my iPad)
I sync’d (After downloads wouldn’t work to my ipad) and now I am getting this error on every video (TV and movies). Sync used to work flawlessly for me).
EXACTLY the same for me on iOS. * downloads doesn’t work at all. Sync will download and complete but when trying to play downloaded videos I also get the “Couldn’t retrieve the play queue…” error message
Reverted to sync, Sync appears to work, but when you actually try to play content you get a “Couldn’t retrieve the play queue for this item. Please try again” error message.
Plex Amp App
Music downloads appear to work, but then show they are unplayable when I actually try to play them.
Any estimate on when these items will get fixed Plex?
I am also having this issue, I used the Plex iPad app to download some videos and the download process said it completed. When I went to play videos later I got the same error “Couldn’t retrieve the play queue for this item, please try again”. I have used the Sync function for years and never had this issue before. Please advise!
Same issue on my Wife’s ipad. Anything recently Synced (not the new download service) is giving me the error Couldn’t retrieve the play queue for this item. Please try again.
I’ve not been able to get the Downloads working on my iPad so hadn’t moved her over, but this is going to be a major issue if Downloads is still broken on iOS.
PLEX STAFF - this issue has been going on for well over a YEAR! Please give us an Update on ETR for this downloads and sync problem, or remove the functionality from the application all together.
Sync has had issues for YEARS and the New Downloads has never worked for me. My Downloads on EMBY server work Fine. Why is this such a long-term huge issue???
New iOS update, still no fix. People should SERIOUSLY think twice about paying for a subscription or lifetime pass. Devs clearly no longer invested in the platform in the way they used to be. This is a major feature that has been broken and not addressed for far too long now.
Just bought a new Apple TV 4K 2nd gen, and getting this same issue. The device is basically unusable because of this. Here are my logs. logging.zip (628.7 KB)
