Downloads: "Something Went Wrong"

Server Version#: 1.32.7.7621

Finally got my albums playing in Android Auto in my Volvo XC60. But now when I get back in the house and the phone is on LTE and Wifi, every downloaded album I try to play on Android says “Something Went Wrong”. Of course I can play them from Music, but I want to check the downloaded data to make sure it’s kosher.

I tried the following:

  1. force-stopped/restarted Plex on the phone
  2. restarted the phone

Now some albums play after a long delay, but most of them just display the “Something Went Wrong” message and Retry doesn’t fix it.

  1. I disabled both Wifi and LTE data (separately and simultaneously), and now some albums play just fine, but most of the albums, if they don’t get the dreaded “Something Went Wrong” error, only open with the album info and don’t display any tracks and of course they don’t play.

Are there ground rules for Downloads I need to follow? Downloaded content should play regardless of whether I have an Internet connection, but am I violating a rule here by trying to do that? Where is it documented? The cheery " Going Off Grid Just Got Great" blog article mentions nothing about this.

I know it’s not exactly an answer to your question, but have you tried using Plexamp? You may find music downloads to be more reliable there, as it’s an app built just for music users.

I just heard about Plexamp but have not tried it. Will do so tomorrow. Does it preserve my music library?

Yes, it’s just an alternative app to access the same library.

But evidently it has its own Downloads folder. None of my downloaded albums appear in Plexamp, so I guess I have to repeat the download operation for each one.

Apps are not able to share data folders with each other, as a security mechanism. In addition, the structure that Plexamp uses for its downloaded media is different to Plex for Android. This is part of what makes Plexamp’s downloads so reliable.
