DS1019+ Users other than admin can't see server, since migration

Server Version#: DS1019 - PlexMediaServer-1.18.8.2527-740d4c206-x86_64
Player Version#: AppleTV, web/Firefox/Safari

Since migrating my PMS from a Mac Mini to my new DS1019+, users other than the admin of server can’t log in and see media files (home users nor shared/friends). Thoughts?

Which migration method did you use?

I used the one method - I documented it here:

I read some reports on this forum that there were issues when going to 1.18 with users accessing libraries on Synology devices, and some guys downgraded to 1.16 and the shared users could access the server again, so I was hoping in my other thread that I could get access to old/archived releases for my DS1019 to check and see if this problem goes away when jumping down to 1.16 (or 1.17 if there is such a thing).

That procedure isn’t going to work the way you expect it to.

Well, seemed to work fine with the articles I came across and read, no duplicates, everything works fine, turned back on automatic library, etc. like it states. So yes, all works fine EXCEPT for users other than admin being able to see my server. So would that be messed up with the move from my Mini to the DS1019? Is there a preference file that I can check to fix that?

I checked your FAQ but I do not see how it applies to my situation. Here’s a few others having the same issue: Plex Media Server 1.18 broke library access for my users I also cannot delete users (no red X) that I invited, so I can’t delete and reinvite them.

Edit: I checked and my 32400 port is opened and forwarded properly to the Synology box, and the Remote Access is all in the green.

Regarding the inability to delete.

  1. These are users you invited to share but never replied?
  2. Are they Plex Home users?
  1. No, they have both replied, I made both accounts and accepted the invite years (for one) and months ago (for other).
  2. One is a Plex Home account, the other is not.

I also just noticed that my server is not accessible outside the network. However, my 32400 port is open (connecting from outside network), and portmapped through the Tomato router. It seems to be working for some time (when I turn off/on) and then quits… perhaps this is the issue?

If your server isn’t remote access enabled then the best that one person can get is INDIRECT speeds of 2 Mbps but still should play.

I do not know how well Plex Home works for remote users. I think it too would have issues as well streaming but have never used Plex Home (I live alone)

Well, just for the heck of it, where can I get older PMS versions for my DS1019+, for example PlexMediaServer-1.16.6.1592-x86_64 or PlexMediaServer-1.16.7.1597-a6e223f7f (last two 1.16 versions that I can see)?

They don’t exist. They would need be recompiled from scratch.
Engineering frequently purges all but the last version or two.

Throughout the forums I’ve always suggested folks keep a copy of versions for themselves.

Saying it takes up too much disk space with a Synology NAS won’t hold.
It’s a 200 MB/version SPK. 10 versions and you have a 2GB movie file.

There is the Synology Archived package
https://archive.synology.com/download/Package/spk/Plex%20Media%20Server/1.16.5.1552-8e8d0c785/PlexMediaServer-1.16.5.1552-8e8d0c785-x86_64.spk

hope this will help you.

Bingo. Thanks so much supermounter. Uninstalled, rebooted, put in 1.16. And just like that, my users can see my Plex server, and I can delete users if I want. Boy, Plex screwed this up and hasn’t fixed it since last fall yet?! Sounds like the developers (not pointing fingers at you ChuckPa) are having too much fun pushing out streaming services. Give me back my old-school HTPC Plex software like it was years ago when I signed up.

Meanwhile, I’ve setup Emby while figuring this out, and it’s like Plex was years ago; doesn’t require my server phoning home or weblogin via the Plex interface to get to server. Local-only network service like it should be but yet can allow remote access if I wish, and works when my internet is offline, unlike Plex.

The closest I’m allowed to get to the code is the installation packaging for the hosts.
