Hi there,
Sorry, I am getting a little frustrated with this.
Windows 10 OS on PC. I have created a folder with DSM called Video and placed an MP4 file in the folder, Installed Plex server, browsed to see the file but Plex does not see the file and I don’t see what I am doing wrong. can you help please
So nothing to do with a Synology DS218+, then?
Are you just trolling us?
Hello Gary,
I am Not trolling you, Synology has said to me that the software is not theirs and there for I should contact yourselves. Please
see below the ticket from them: I have followed how to install PLEX Etc but for some reason it doesn’t find the MP4 file in the folder.

But you said you were running it on a Win 10 PC, not a Synology diskstation?
And please remove your mobile phone number from your post. Don’t ever post personal details on public forums
Sorry, I thought I might be easier to talk? Is there a number I can call? The PC that is connected to the NAS is running Win 10
I just though it would help.
Okay BAS, let’s get this straight:
- you’ve installed PMS on your Synology
- you’ve created a folder called “Video” on your Synology and put an MP4 file in it
- you’ve connected to the Video folder from your Win 10 machine and can see the MP4 file in the Video folder
Have you created a Library in PMS and pointed it at the video folder? PMS can’t see the files until you create a library of the correct type (TV, Movie, Music, etc.) and point it at the appropriate folder on the Synology.
Have a look a thorough read of the Synology Plex FAQ here:
https://forums.plex.tv/t/synology-faqs-read-this-first/274891
If reading the FAQs don’t cover and solve the problems you’re having come back here and we’ll see if we can get it sorted. You need to give us a lot more information about your problems to get them fixed, though.
Gary
All sorted it was a user permissions issue in Plex which I didn’t know I needed to do.
