This discussion was created from comments split from: How do I add movies to Plex using synology NAS?.
Bumping this thread…
I just got a Synology DS1517+ running Plex 1.12.xxx and no matter what we do, we can’t get our Plex server to see any of our movies. (We are running a Plex server on a PC at the moment, so we know our data is formatted properly.)
Very weird.
I broke you out of the other thread for 2 reasons: It was already answered and it was answered over a year ago (netiquette).
Linux security is much stricter than windows. The two can’t be compared.
On Synology, or any other Linux-based system, user plex
must expressly be given permission to read the files you want it to add to any library.
On Synology this is easy to do.
Control Panel - Shared Folders - EDIT
the share containing your media - Permissions tab - Add user Plex
to the R/W list - Save changes.
Now have it scan for media in that share and it will be found
