DS918+ Plex Media Server RAM Leak

The easiest way to “Start from Scratch” without actually starting over…
There is no need to destroy/wipe out anything.

  1. Stop PMS
  2. In the Plex share, rename Library to Library.keep (or other obvious name)
  3. Sign out the browser
  4. Now start PMS and create new with a different friendly name
  5. Start “Fresh”.

Memory usage went back over 85% today. Looking at the server log the error you highlighted on the LG client:
ERROR - Unable to find client profile for device; platform=webOS, platformVersion=4.1.0, device=, model=65UK6540PTD
Dec 22, 2018 15:28:20.129 [0x7fdfa4cf3700]
appears every 10 secs when playing a file.
According to the LG Content store the Plex app is version 2.1.0 dated 07/09/2016. which would appear to be why there is no knowledge of this TV id. Is there a later LG app ?

Sorry,
When I look at the settings on the TV it says Plex App version 3.80.1 and webOS 4.1.0

Thanks Scott,

Unfortunately everyone here is now gone until after the holiday. I will reach out to the TV app team on Monday / Tuesday when they return.

I work primary at the OS level so neither Server nor App but understand a lot more of the server.
if there is a missing device profile, that can be addressed pretty quickly and easily.

Thanks Chuck,. No problem.
Have a great holiday.
Cheers

Just as an update over the last week I’ve been able to isolate the issue to the missing profiles (both LG TVs)
I used Samsung TV and Web clients for two days and memory remained steady at 11% to 20%.
When I reverted back to using the LG TVs memory usage went to 87% within a day and I had to restart Plex.
The two TVs are: LG 65UK6540PTD and LG 43UK6540PTD.
Cheers

Help me paraphrase please?

  1. You have two LG televisions which work normally.
  2. You have two additional LG TVs which do not have a valid profile.
  3. When “Universal Transcode” is invoked, due to the missing profile, memory usage spikes to 87%

Is this correct?

If so, Can you pull the TV logs? If so, I can probably help you write a temporary profile to use as a means of verifying if the true root cause and serve as a work around until repaired.

1 is incorrect. I have 2 Samsung TVs that work normally
2 is correct. The LGs were purchased recently (late November) to replace the older Samsungs
3 is correct. The memory usage gradually increases to the stage that PMS on the Synology needs to be restarted.

How can I pull the TV logs? TBH I can easily work around this issue by restarting PMS on a daily basis so I’d hate to have you write a temp profile if it’s only a matter of a week or two for a fix.
Especially given the time of year.
Cheers

Thanks for the correction.
I shared your post with the web-tv team and am waiting for feedback from them now.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Plex. Sorry for the late reply!

I also have this problem, and I also have a new LG tv that I use to watch plex

Hi Chuck, checking in as it’s been a week and for most the holidays are over  Did you get any feedback yet?

I have same issue D918+ LG 4k tv. Mem leaks just fill ram. I only just installed Plex recently, I forgot why i had avoided it. But I have turned it off after this issue and the fact you can not disable logging to allow the Nas to sleep, for me my nas is only occasionally used now so this is essential to me.

Bump. Any update?

No. i have no update. I’ve been swamped with other problems. I did see a fix get put into place which is going into the new beta. Have you tried it yet?

Thanks, No new beta available yet but I’ll keep my eye out for it.

I’ve applied the latest build - PlexMediaServer-1.15.0.647-67e950f12-x86_64 today. Still a bit early to tell if the RAM leak is fixed however I can see that the error:
“ERROR - Unable to find client profile for device; platform=webOS, platformVersion=4.1.0, device=, model=65UK6540PTD”
Is still occurring every 10 seconds

That’s not a RAM leak. This is also beta. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves please and put multiple issues in the same thread?

Okay.
Back in Dec 18th I advised that I isolated the memory utilisation issue to the LG missing profiles.
You later responded that you had seen a fix go in to the new beta and asked if I’d tried it.
I’m simply responding to say that I’ve tried it and there is no fix to the missing profiles. Memory utilisation has gone today from 6% to 11% in a couple of hours.

Sorry… Been an extremely crazy day fo rme. I will reach out to the app team for more help. This is getting beyond my app skills.
