No problem. We all get those sort of days. I appreciate your help. If the app team need to contact me direct I’d be OK.
Hi Chuck,
Have a look at this when you have time.
I’ve tried changing
“Client name=”[LG] webOS TV OLED55C7V" to “Client name=”[LG] webOS TV 65UK6540PTD"
I’ve created a profile called “webOS LG 65UK6540PTD” in @appstore/plex Media server/profiles"
I’ve restarted the NAS and Plex but the profile still isn’t being used. I think I’ve named the profile wrong.
Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks
I did not modify any existing profiles. I created a profiles folder under @appstore/Plex Media Server and put the profile file in there.
Essentially I did as you say.
Scot,
In /volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server
- Create the Profiles directory.
- Put your user-created or customized profile there.
- User Plex must be able to read it
- Restart PMS so it will find the file.
Each time you make changes, you must restart Plex.
This is because it loads profiles into memory when it starts.
OK apologies, I forgot about permissions.
Can I ask if you can confirm that Plex will find the profile is the xml filename is
“webOS LG 65UK6540PTD”
and the profile has “Client name=”[LG] webOS TV 65UK6540PTD"
From the log file the error is:
Device is webOS (LG 65UK6540PTD).
Feb 09, 2019 14:48:37.754 [0x7fdc98855700] ERROR - Unable to find client profile for device; platform=webOS, platformVersion=4.1.0, device=, model=65UK6540PTD
Thanks again
The name PMS reports in the log is the name you must give it in the Profile. It is a simple string comparison.
Thanks,
I’ve created it exactly as you’ve outlined. Hopefully will be able to test it out today. Quick question. Is there a log file that indicates which profiles have been loaded into memory when PMS starts? At least then I can ensure it’s been found.
Never mind. I restarted PMS and the new profile “webOS” is being found and used. The profile errors are no longer occurring.
Hi,
Still seeing memory utilisation increase although the profile errors are gone.
I’d like to revert to the public release now for further checking… Can I do this without losing any data? I assume I uninstall PMS beta from Package Center and install the public release?
Thanks
Yes, that’s the version currently running.
Sorry for jumping in.
Scot,
Is DVR enabled ?
No.
I live in a rural area. we don’t get live TV reception or mobile Live TV and DVR isn’t set up.
I’m beginning to believe that I may have a corrupt installation. Memory utilisation increased to 85% overnight when the only thing running was scheduled data maintenance. I have also observed memory at 11% for 90 mins while two TVs are running and then suddenly jumping to 65% without any changes at the clients - still running the same media files.
THen perform the simple test.
- Stop PMS
- Rename Library to Library.keep
- Setup again
- Start
- init again (minimal test config)
Thanks Chuck,
I’ll do this tomorrow and let you know what happens.
Hi Chuck,
I could do this on a spare Windows box I have. Stop PMS on the NAS and point the TV’s to the new PMS.
Would that suffice?
zero sum gain in this case.
Both are new installations of PMS.
Windows introduces a whole new set of variables and possible causes of failure.
NAS boxes and all the internet’s servers are Linux for a reason but the choice is yours.
OK. I’ll work on the NAS. I won’t be able to do this until next week now.
Hi Chuck,
Was longer than expected before I could try this. Just to update you.
I first did what you said with an install of the public build added a few movies and TV shows and monitored it over 2 days. Memory utilisation was stable. However, when adding more movies (even 1 at a time) CPU went to 100%. Maybe because I’d gone from the beta to the earlier public release?
Seemed to be better when I updated the test install to the beta version although CPU was still relatively high (45%)
Interestingly, with all versions there is no WebOS profile so the original error “unable to find profile” reappears until I put my custom profile back.
I’m pretty well convinced my installation is corrupt now. To ensure it’s clean I’m going to completely remove Plex and start from scratch.
Thanks you both for your help.
Cheers
Scott,
When you add any content, CPU will spike. There are tasks to complete so it will jump up and get them done.
WebOS and however they do those things is a mystery to me. I am not the person to ask when it comes to apps.
I would create a thread there and so tag it.
