DSM 7.0 and Plex on Synology

Apologies for maybe being a bit repetitive, but I am new to this game and have tried to follow all the threads and advice of which there are numerous.

In simple layman’s terms, I purchased a Synology 920+ NAS and a couple of drives in the hopes that I could move my Plex setup away from a woefully under-powered W10 computer.

I followed the installation and setup of the Synology device and part of the installation included upgrading to DSM 7. Sadly, I neglected to read this forum first and went ahead and installed it resulting in DSM 7.0.1-42218

I then went over to the Plex site to download the latest package so that I could install it manually. There are 2 packages for the Intel platform, 64 bit and 32 bit. I started at 64 and this is what came up

So now I have a totally useless NAS device with an equally useless software package because they wont talk nicely to each other and, as I said, I’m new to this and I have no way out other than to wait for one of the two to blink, or take some other drastic measure.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You accidentally downloaded the DSM 6 package.

You want the DSM 7 package from the downloads page (there are two entries)

  • Synology
  • Synology (DSM7)

Thanks very much ChuckPa.

I guess I didn’t dig deeply enough into this and I completely missed the DSM6 at the end of the file name. In my defense, when I was looking for the files to install, It only offered me these 2 DSM6 files plus a few ARM files.

Again, my fault for not concentrating on the task at hand… and thanks again for the help in pointing me in the right direction.
