DSM 7 Duplicate libraries

Hi. I am on DSM 7 plex media server and want to duplicate the library on a second synology NAS. How do I do this? Cannot find any instructions for PMS on DSM 7.

The situation is this:
I have 2 Synology Nas servers at 2 locations. One duplicates content to the other. In the process of upgrading to DSM 7 one of the library databases got deleted and it rebuilt the database. I am not re-correcting all the errors manually.

I have a two-fold question:

  1. I want to copy one PMS library database to the other that got wiped. Both now on DSM 7 Synology. What is the process/instructions for this?
  2. How do I backup/restore/migrate DSM 7 PMS databases in future now that the location of the library has moved?

Installed plex from the downloads page. Followed the instructions to a tee. One worked, one did not and deleted my library. It appears to be completely gone from one of the servers now. It automatically rebuilt itself with auto metadata after installation. Lots of metadata errors from auto pulling - I do NOT want to manually fix 10+tb of content.

I am guessing best solution would be to copy the database from the correct library server and duplicate it onto the other. It also raises questions on how to backup the database and how to migrate to a new server when I upgrade (usually upgrade every 2 yrs). It was previously very simple to backup/migrate/duplicate the database on DSM 6.

Ok great. So download and install this version on both servers then copy the data as per previous DMS versions? Thanks in advanced

Hey trumpy81. Thanks for the help so far. That did work to back up the database but I am now having new issues in that the database that I copied onto the other server is essentially a clone and are now interfering with each other (as my account thinks they are the same machine). I have looked through some forums about cloning and changing machineID in the preferences, changing the friendly name etc but nothing seems to help. Some assistance would be amazing!

Having new playback issues…sigh. The issues are never ending since upgrading to DSM 7 :(.

The database etc is working great, however having issues with playing files. To reproduce the issue if I play a file, then exit, then try to play another file it won’t load. The spinning wheel will forever spin without an error message. The only way to resolve the issue is to stop PMS and restart.

I have checked permissions, restarted the nas, restarted PMS, optimised database, cleaned bundles, emptied trash, tried on multiple devices.

Any suggestions?

I’ve further narrowed it down to only happening on the nvidia shield pro tv (new model) and only with mkv files over 10mbps. I’ve tried different ethernet cables, ports, wifi vs. lan. Nothing helps.

I’ve also tried playing around with settings in the client side plex. Doesn’t help either. Any suggestions would be great.

This worked perfectly. I ended up having to do the uninstall/reinstall first (since the “PlexMediaServer” folder wasn’t in my Synology volume), then steps 1-6 above to get the new Plex server running alongside the old one, but now everything is set. Thank you very much!
