I’ve just upgraded to DSM 7, while following these insructions exactly:
However, at step 2 it says that the first installation will fail, and then I should give the proper permissions to PlexMediaServer – this did NOT happen. Instead, the installation finished without any errors.
Now, it’s like Plex has never been installed. My media libraries were not migrated.
I really don’t want to start from scratch. I have years of metadata which I’ve carefully curated.
Is there any way to now get my original libraries migrated properly?
Please look and confirm you still have Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server (in the “Plex” shared folder).
If you do then what you ended up with is a rogue PMS because of the 1.21.0.3744 beta.
This is easily correctable
Uninstall the current package with the ERASE option to remove the rogue DSM 7 server.
Install 1.25.3.5385 again.
If it , rather quickly, claims success, again check Plex / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server. IF your metadata is indeed still there then we do this again ( because DSM 7 beta has been known to create 2 rogue servers )
If it doesn’t claim success, but instead sits there with Installing, then you’re on your way. It is performing the “migration” from DSM 6 → DSM 7.
Keep an eye on Plex/Migration.log (it does take a bit for it to show up sometimes)
After migration is complete, We’ll clean up the duplicate server listed by Plex.tv
