DSM 7 + Plex Upgrade/Migration Issue

  1. Verify you still have all the metadata in the Plex share (Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server exists and is not empty). If true, proceed.

  2. Uninstall + ERASE (to remove the errant installation)

  3. Control Panel - Security - Set the timer to 65536

  4. Signout of DSM, restart DSM , Sign in – to use the new idle timer.

  5. Download and install PMS from Plex.tv/Downloads

  6. Observe it telling you how to fix permissions – Follow them.

  7. Obverve migration kicking in because “Installing” spins for a while it processes all your metadata. Be prepared to wait a considerable amount of time. (2-3 minutes / 1000 indexed items (movies, episodes, photos, music tracks)

  8. When complete, There will be a “Blue” bannered popup reminding you of the permissions settings procedure to grant PlexMediaServer permission to read youe media on DSM 7 (we do not use “Plex” user anymore)
