Is this the Shield by any chance or another Android box?
It’s definitely a confirmed issue on the Shield.
This is a Google/Nvidia issue. It impacts other apps as well. I greatly regret taking the Shield Experience 8.0 upgrade.
We are now at Hotfix 5 and its still not resolved. This was a long standing issue with SE 7.0 and was resolved with SE 7.2, only to regress with SE8.0…
Personally I greatly regret buying the Shield.
Worst in class picture, worst in class UX (in Plex) but not to worry because it does HD-Passthru flawlessly…well for a couple of months every year at least.
Shield with 8.0.
Still happening with the 8.0.1 shield update.
I have just come to realise I am also experiencing this bug.
Had not watched a DTS-HD movie for a long time.
Has there been any progress over in the shield forums?
*edit found some information myself.
Open Known Issues: - YouTube 5.1 PCM audio not available - Launcher app Icons appear zoomed/cropped - Unable to re-enable location services being disabled - TV loses sync HDMI sync to SHIELD during modesets (power on, wake from sleep, refresh/resolution changes) - HD Audio dropouts - USB DAC passthrough not working in Kodi - Rare Netflix stutter issue - Disconnect when connecting to SHIELD from PC - Failure during 2015 Controller firmware update
Thanks for pointing this latest bug out to me.
I spent hours switching HDMI cables the other day.
I look forward to the Hotfix. (But less so the 3 or 4 new issues that Hotfix creates.)
For 2015/2017 Shield TVs, the 8.0.1+ HotFix is supposed to fix the HD audio dropouts.
There is also a 8.1.0+ HotFix for 2019 Shield TVs.
Neither is available today, but you can sign up to receive the appropriate update when it is available.
2015/2017 SHIELD Experience Upgrade 8.0.1+ HotFix Image
The first 8.0.1+ HotFix image for the 2015/2017 SHIELD TVs will be deployed soon based on the public 8.0.1 image and contains the follow fixes:
First HotFix:
2019 SHIELD Experience Upgrade 8.1.0+ HotFix Image
The first HotFix image for the 2019 SHIELD TVs has been deployed on 11/6/2019 as version 32.7.301.38 and is based on the public 8.1 image with the follow fixes:
First HotFix (32.7.301.38):
Note that there is still an issue with the color switch while in DV mode on Sony xbr55x900f that is being worked on for a future HotFix image.
So the big question is do I really want to go down the Hotfix route on my Shield (2019) after the less than stellar (not really the description I would use) experiences of hotfixes on the 2017 model.
Actually thinking more about this, are hotfixes per device or Google account?
Does the fact I signed up for hotfixes on the 2017 mean I’m gonna get them on my 2019?
So glad i don’t have a shield but it looks like you guys are having so much fun:rofl:
Hotfixes are only applied per Shield serial numbers. You can not opt once you submit your serial number. It ends when the next public image is released. For example I am signed up for the 2015/2017 SE Upgrade 8.0.1+ HotFix Images. Once they release the public 8.1 image for 2015/2017, the enrolled Shield will no longer receive Hotfixes. If you want newer HotFixes, you you need to submit your serial number(s) again once Nvidia opens up the subsequent early access HotFix campaign.
I have already received the first 2019 8.1+ HotFix and it does resolve the Match Content Color Space
regression. I posted on both threads at the Nvidia forum. I am awaiting the first 2015/2017 SE Upgrade 8.0.1+ HotFix Image to resolve the HD audio dropouts.
Thanks Achilles.
The 2017 was just despatched to some “lucky” ebayer a couple of hours ago.
So, any chance you could keep us updated if you notice anything that the 2019 hotfix breaks please?
It just seemed that on the 2017 every hotfix cured what it was designed to fix and broke a crap load of other stuff.
I am discovering that the HD audio decoders in the LG OLEDs may be a big part of the problem. I wonder how many people are using them. In light of that I am going to get this for my master bedroom to mate with my LG OLED55B7:
Me for one. @FordGuy61 for two.
And i meant specifically the B7
I knew it had issues with DTS-HD, as in its advertised but doesn’t actually support it. It will decode the lossy DTS core but not the full DTS-HD Master Audio or DTS:X. In fact even when it does decode the lossy DTS core, it will always clip the audio at the same timestamp. I don’t have this issue on my Denon AVR-4311ci. Displays are a razer-thin margin business. I doubt LG will invest much more resources into the 2017 model to resolve the HD audio issues. The LG OLED55B7P was the first time I didn’t use an AVR to decode the various audio codecs. NEVER AGAIN! Displays should just be displays!
