TrueHD and DTS-HD MA Audio Drops

Server Version#: 1.23.2.4656

How come when I play a 4k movie with TrueHD or DTS-HD audio the sounds drops out constantly when I have the resolutions set to “4K 59.940 Hz Dolby Vision and HDR10 Ready” BUT when I set the resolution in the Shield settings to “4K 23.976 Hz Dolby Vision and HDR10 Ready” the audio is much better but still cuts in and out on the loud parts.

I bought a Shield Pro for the audio passthrough features but so far I can’t get it to work.

They say that it is on your end (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/395152/known-issues-shield-experience-upgrade-822/)

SHIELD Experience release 8.2 has resolved a few issues with 96/192 Khz TrueHD/DTS-MA playback but Plex still has work to do on the App side to resolve this issue. These files generally work fine in Kodi or the built in Gallery app as a temporary solution while Plex is fixed.

When will this be addressed and fixed or what can I do to stop the audio from dropping?

I too would like an answer to this.

My set-up is Shield Pro 2019 → LG OLED55BX6LB → eEARC → Sonos Arc

Audio drops out and back in when set to TrueHD 7.1. Sound does stay in sync though. Dropouts are random, sometimes it happens constantly and at other times its once in awhile (this is with the same film played from the start for testing)

When using Kodi its fine so this does lead me to believe its a Plex issue.

Tried every setting imaginable!

Good to see Plex support is as top notch as ever.

Quick replies full of knowledge and dates for fixes.

I’ve seen this a few times on my Shield Pro as well. Completely random audio drops that last a second or two. Nothing goes out of sync. I’ve had this on a few titles and if I rewind and watch again where it happened, it doesn’t drop. Very strange. Next time it happens I’ll grab server and player logs.

I wouldn’t bother posting logs - its clear Plex support is doing what it does best - absolutely f**k all.

On doing some searching it maybe an issue with Exoplayer

The fastest way to get a response on whether it is Exoplayer or not is to post the on the Emby forums. I’ll do it later and link you to it.

I had other issues in the past attributed to exoplayer so it wouldn’t surprise me that’s the cause. At least this isn’t happening all the time for me. For now at least.
