DTS-HD HRA 7.1 Audio Not Working

Same issue shield pro 2019 and yamaha rx v377. Works fine in kodi but in plex it shows dts hd master but only plays dts

Hi !

Who displays Ā« DTS HD Master Ā» ? Plex or your Yamaha AVR ?
We are talking here about DTS HRA (High Resolution Audio , lossy format) witch is not the same as DTS HD Master Audio (lossless format).

Oh il just get mee coat!

Hi everyone,

I share my feedback. I also had sound cuts only in DTS-HD MA (never tested HRA). In Atmos or any other Dolby format I have no problems on my Ambeo Sheinneiser soundbar.
On NV 2019, I forced settings and since then it works when I play my MKV files in DTS-HD MA (maybe it fixes the problem in DTS-HD HR too) :

Go to Advanced Audio Settings, Audio Output, and force HDMI output (not AUTO).
Go back, go to Surround Sound, leave Dolby Processing checked, select ā€œSelect Formatsā€ and check ā€œManual: select formats to useā€, then select all formats compatible with your home theater system or sound bar. On Plex and on the Shield, leave the Passthrough parameter activated.

Then try again! For me, it solved my problem.

Hi, thanks is for sharing. My issue is not the same : DTS-HRA is not working at all (not only sound cuts) and DTS-MA is working fine. HDMI settings have no effects and with the same HDMI settings, Kodi is working with DTS-HRA, Plex for Android does not in both passthrough mode

Hi

Any news on this subject ?

Hi,
I have the same Problem with Denon 2400H AVR and NVIDIA 2019 Shield TV Pro.

The same file (DTS_orchestra_short_lossless-DWEU.mkv) i got it working on Kodi 19.1.
I so its not a NVIDIA Shield Problem.

Like the others said its not correctly passthrough.

Is hopefully fixed soon.

No, it“s definitely not a shield issue - it“s a plex player one. But I have a bad feeling that this will never get fixed. It“s sad but I have high hopes for plex htpc (dts-hd hra works), when it finally gets a linux version.

Hello fellow sufferers, same problem here with NVIDIA 2019 Shield TV Pro and Pioneer AV Receiver VSX-LX303, tried it again some hours before with newest updates on all devices.
After more than 2 years, I think Plex Employee has lost any idea for the problem.

I given up. To hold on Plex I found a free solution.
I extract the MKV with eac3to, then I get a *.dtshr File.
Or you can use MKVToolNix and extract the Audio to *.mka File.
Then I use Shutter Encoder to convert it to a *.flac 7.1 File.
Then I multiplex it with MKVToolNix back to the MKV.
I will hear now wonderful sound and the Receiver show 8ch PCM Sound.

Thanks for the workaround ! but it add many steps to the ingest workflow…
I still hope plex team will look again into this problem.

Hmm, ok o_spring.
Another way is more simple, but PCM 7.1 Sound, not Flac 7.1.
Take Shutter Encoder only. (Its a free Software)
Choose ā€œRewrapā€ to ā€œMKVā€
Open Audio Settings, choose ā€œConvert PCMā€ set Bits, kb/s and k you want.
Select the Tracks you want to convert and hold. Set the others to ā€œNo audioā€, but you will lost these tracks.
Click start and complete MKV will be done in ca. 20min.

Not only does it increase the overall procedure to add media, but it also makes the files substantially larger, especially when using pcm instead of flac.
I hope the plex devs are still looking for a solution!

Hey there, sorry it’s taken a while but I’d like to chime in with an update from the SHIELD team on this.

A quick summary is android and exoplayer (which Plex uses) don’t have enum’s for DTS-HD HRA today which is why this issue exists, things can only be opened as HD/HD-MA. We spent the last few weeks plumbing things in our audio stack for this only to come to ther realization that where we plumbed it would address this gap for things which use nuplayer but doesn’t help exoplayer/Plex. So, we took another swing at it and have come up with a workaround that works for both exoplayer and nuplayer where we detect the hra stream lower in our stack and enable it behind the scenes. We have a test build working with this change and have confirmed the work around for now in both Plex and the Gallery app. This change will be in our next release (Sorry, I can’t talk about the date of that…), so relief is coming soon.

Longer term, we’ll work on upstreaming the larger changes to get proper support for this into android and eventually exoplayer but the workaround will deploy in the next release should hold us over until that happens.

Great news !!! Thanks for the update. I am looking forward to receive this new firmware on my Shield

Any idea about when this fix will be installed? Or is there a way to test the beta software? Thanks!

Here at Pioneer it works, too. Thanks for this one.
But with 9.0 (9.0.1) there are many more other Problems coming in.
One time i had to cut of the power line, because it was frozen. Some seconds by press Power button wasn’t work.
Movies jerks and many more probs.
