DTS is a go

I and many others posted previously and assumed DTS playback was going to be a no go based on what's supported in the beta of the media player app...  happy to report that was inaccurate.  DTS is able to direct stream.  VERY pleased to see this.  I'm in the preview program, so I can't speak to the official version.

Yep. I saw the same thing.

When I check activity on the web server, it shows that the audio is transcoding to aac when watching DTS material.

Are you in the Microsoft Preview Program?  I imagine the extended codec support in the beta is required.  I believe the current beta release is slated for official release sometime this month.

Yeah I'm on the preview program, although the options inside the app show DTS it's still transcoding. On the web app, goto activity, now playing and click the i. It will show that the DTS stream is being transcoded.

I know how to check, thanks.  And no, it's not being transcoded.  All my DTS is being direct streamed.  I can't explain your experience - are you playing it back with hardware that supports DTS?

This is just a wild guess so no hating folks.. but are your xbox one profiles identical? I mean, they must be configured to "accept" DTS .. no?

I think there is some confusion here... but the application will not attempt to Direct Play content which contains DTS.

Ian

Is it possible for somebody to add me to the preview program please? My Gamertag is WABBAJ4CK

Correct - it's direct streaming.  My initial post was referring to the ability to output DTS period - which for me at least, I was not expecting.

The Plex Media Server profile will also not attempt to Direct Stream DTS, did you modified it?

Yeah for me it's playing the DTS stream by changing it from DTS to aac, just like others above.  I am also in the Xbox preview program.

Are you sure it's not converting it to AC3, rather than AAC?

Ian

For me, I saw:

Audio
  • Stream Type: transcode
  • Audio Codec: aac
  • Audio Channels: 6

Thanks, i'll look into it.

Ian

DTS streams are being transcoded to AAC here.. only AC3 streams are Direct Played.

I'm also part of the Preview Program so my Xbox One also has the Oktober update.

I haven't modified anything.  However, I'm now seeing some files direct streaming, while others are transcoding to AAC.  I'm currently testing and looking at various files to see if I can figure out where the difference is - they're all H.264 MKV DTS.

None of my files are Direct Playing. All the video is being transcoded (h.264 MKV) and audio is transcoding when it's DTS. When it's DD 5.1 (AC3) it does Direct Play.

That is the expected behaviour.

Ian

Oke. :)
