Just wanted to add that my DTS streams are also being transcoded to AAC and not Ac3 ...
For instance "District 9" which is h264/DTS

Thanks, I think i've identified why. I'll speak to the server team and see if we want to consider changes in the future.

Lot's of discussion on 5.1... any word on 7.1? I assume it's not passing through, but does it transcode at all?
Out of curiosity, does the XB1 do DTS-HD and other high-def audio?

I'm sorry, but these are not supported natively so will be transcoded by the server

I haven't modified anything. However, I'm now seeing some files direct streaming, while others are transcoding to AAC. I'm currently testing and looking at various files to see if I can figure out where the difference is - they're all H.264 MKV DTS.
i also noticed this as well. I think the one transcoding might of been DTS-HD tho.
it would be great if it just passed it all through. I spent 15k on my audio setup, would really love to to use those high quality audio codecs.

I'm sorry, but if Plex doesn't support HD audio...then really what's the use for BluRay content? That is only delivering half the HD package. I guess I'll stick with using my Oppo player and it's ugly interface to stream because it does so flawlessly. Was hoping to switch to Plex but if no HD audio then that's a showstopper.

i'd be happy if it just moved the hd stream to pcm and streamed it...but i don't know if that is possible
+1 on the HD-Audio bitstreaming for DTS-MA, TrueHD, ATMOS, or whatever new thing comes out. Please just allow an option to pass it through.

Vote for it here: http://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/253802-home-settings/suggestions/6029319-proper-hd-audio-support

Don't take this the wrong way, but if I spent $15,000 on my audio system, I wouldn't be watching Plex via an Xbox. If sound is important to you, your absolute best bet would be an HTPC with Plex Home Theater.
As suggested here, we can only do what the Xbox One allows us to do. When Microsoft allow DTS playback for 3rd party apps, we'll do everything we can to support it. If they add further codec support, we'll add it. If you feel strongly about this, please tell Microsoft! :)

I've got a £10k HT system and would like to use the xbox one as my main media device. Currently have 3 different devices for different media / libraries so would simplify things greatly.Don't take this the wrong way, but if I spent $15,000 on my audio system, I wouldn't be watching Plex via an Xbox. Could argue the convergence / divergence thing all day.
Not to get OT, but if simplicity is what you're (or anyone is) looking for, then the cost of the system is irrelevant. I would argue that if someone has invested any kind of money and time into an entertainment setup, as I myself have also done, then you'll want to use sources that take advantage of the capabilities, even if that requires switching sources. Hey, isn't that what quality receivers and multimedia remotes are for anyway? All I'm saying is that the XB1 is probably not going to be the most capable client for Plex (edit: when Plex is limited by the capabilities--or lack thereof in the case of DTS--of the device). But I could be wrong.
I'm in the same situation with a dedicated HT room with high end equipment.
It's unfortunately a compromise at this point. I agree that one device to rule them all would be ideal, but we're not there yet. If you want the best Plex experience, hands down you need an HTPC, period, full stop. While the xbox app is great, as Ian has mentioned, they are limited to what Microsoft allows. Unlike the Xbox, Plex Home Theatre has no such limitation and they can provide the best experience.
Now, if only Plex can significantly improve their "apps" or channels and then sign deals with Hulu,Netflix, etc to get "official" channels on Plex with a decent UI then we may get the best of both worlds. Right now though, the unofficial channels and the UI is abysmal (they really need to rethink Channels imo).
Can't have it all, yet.
The Xbox One already supports uncompressed PCM audio via bluRay...right? You have to change it to 5.1 uncompressed and then it basically just passes the HD audio to the receiver. You can't use the bitstream option, but uncompressed works just fine.
Plex should be able to use this right?

You'd think so, but apparently Microsoft artificially limits what 3rd party apps can use and can't use.
Too bad when you think of it. The Xbox One supports quite a few audio/video formats, but doesn't make those all available to 3rd party.
Just to be clear, we're happy to support any and all codecs third party developers are allowed to access, but that's something you'd need to discuss with Microsoft. I highly recommend going to their UserVoice page and letting them know what you'd like to see.
