Duplicate Movie Entries

All movies now showing as duplicate. Just happened recently. Why is the occurring? This only happens on Plex through the browser - Roku - AppleTv - Amazon Fire all show properly. Every title is duplicated, here is an example “CARS_2” and “Cars 2” side by side with the same cover art. This only happens when viewing by Title. When viewing by Recently Added there are no duplicates. How do I solve this?

Logs please (settings -server - help - download logs ) and attach the ZIP it gives you.

If it just happened, it will be in the log buffer (they are small by default)

I should rephrase to “noticed recently” as I’m not sure of when.

Can you recreate by doing a “plex dance”

  1. move out
  2. scan files
  3. empty trash
  4. clean bundles
  5. move back in
  6. scan again if not auto detected

This will put something in your scanner logs. As of this moment, they are empty (8-9 KB) without any matching activity

It found the paths.

Go into Settings - Servers - Agents - Movies

If you have LocalMediaAssets above any of the Plex agents, move it below .

It looks like it’s preferring the naming in the file (which LMA will do) over that which is matched.

After changing the agent, scan again.

As one last check, if STILL giving you grief, verify you have the correct agent in the Advanced tab in “Library -> Edit”

LocalMediaAssets were already below and deselected. I must have done
this at some point in the past. Nothing previously stated worked.

I did find a work around however - I turned off Collections. -
Libraries - Edit Libraries - Advanced - Collections - Disabled

The change is immediately reflected and Collections are no longer
created.

What appears to happen is Plex is pulling any movie file that has the
meta data Title set into a Collection (see attached 1), hence the
duplicate title.
Files that are not named are not pulled into a Collection and are not
duplicated (see attached 2).

Is there a way to fix this behavior without having to remove meta data
titles?
