Duplicated server after zero free disk space

Server Version#: 1.16.2.1297
Player Version#: 3.106.2

Hey all

I’ve been using PMS for years and have just run into a new problem: on my Ubuntu server, I ran out of space at some point in the past couple of days. I had some spare capacity and increased the size of my root partition and rebooted.

Once I rebooted, PMS still wasn’t available in app.plex.com until I visited the server’s own page, http://plex/web/

At this point, it started the setup wizard again, which I’m able to complete without any problems, but once that’s complete, I see two of my plex servers is the app drop-down, to original marked “unavailable” and the new one online and “local” as it should be.

Any idea how I can change this so that the “newly installed” PMS is recognised as the old one, so I don’t need to re-share my content with everyone?

Alternatively, is there a way I can update all of my shared users so that they have access to the “new” server?

Thanks!

There is one way. Do you still have the “Preferences.xml” file?

Preferences.xml contains all the ID values which identify that instance to Plex.tv

I have a Preferences.xml - what am I looking for?

The 3 keys which tag it to your account as that specific server instance.

MachineIdentifier
ProcessedMachineIdentifier
AnonymousMachineIdentifier

So I only have the one Preferences.xml file.

Is there a way I can find these details from the ui where my old server is still listed?

Settings - Devices will show the server. It won’t show the ID codes.
Digging into the Resources endpoint from Plex.tv, which has some of that information, takes a bit of technical know-how. it can be done if you’re willing to examine and hand-edit the XML returned from the endpoint.
