Duplicated server onto another machine, devices not persisting

I host a Plex server in a linux docker container, I wanted to migrate it to a more powerful server while retaining the old server as a backup in case of maintenance.

I copied the configuration to the new machine using the official migration guide, mounted the nfs drives in a way that kept all paths the same. I setup remote port forwarding correctly, and everything seems like it should be working just find.

The issue: both the new and old servers won’t persist as devices under my account. One of them persists, and after some messing around, the other one does. If I login via app.plex.tv it seems like a toss-up which server I end up on landing on.

I’m pretty lost on why this is happening, looking for insight from someone that knows the how-and-why of the internals. I’m thinking that maybe duplicating the server by migrating just won’t work? If not, is there a better way to have done this to preserve media data?

When migrating the device/setup, this will treat the new machine as your original server. In your case you want to setup a clone of your old setup… so the new server must get a new machine identifier.
