DVR Beta is officially 1 year old today! (well tomorrow...)

I feel confident enough in it to install this system in my parents house 250 miles away… I think I’m confident. Well… I have a lot of extra equipment for remote admin in the event something goes terribly wrong…

… and I still can’t get a recording to finish. It should be Beta 2.

It works fine if you only have one SiliconDust device and no other apps are using that device. If you have other Apps using a tuner or have multiple devices then not so good. Hopefully they are working on proper tuner sharing on the Silicondust devices … as what makes these devices unique is the ability to be shared.

Just last night I was using the Channels app on an ATV and DVRing a movie with Plex on one HDHR Extend. Recording went fine.

Is the issue with multiple tuners only when they are both setup in Plex? I was looking to add a another Extend tuner that was solely for the Channels app and not setup in Plex at all.

Yes when both devices are setup in Plex. What you plan on doing is fine.

No, it doesn’t. I only have a single HDHR and a Synology which is running nothing but PMS and a file server and I still have to restart the PMS service every morning. Even doing so by the end of the day there are multiple recordings stuck with the full recording circle. I haven’t been able to actually record a full movie in weeks and many TV shows have been doing the same. Even when it doesn’t do that I constantly have recordings that “finish” before the show actually ends and only saves a partial recording of a couple of minutes with no error provided (all partial recordings are disabled).

Judging by the discussions on this forum, my experience is not even remotely unique. Unfortunately, if there isn’t some improvement reasonably soon, I’ll have to look for a more reliable DVR option and cancel my Plex Pass subscription.

Good luck with your remote install.

These is what I have experienced so far I am sure others have different experiences as no 2 setups are ever the same.

1 year later and still too buggy to be useable. I guess the lifetime pass implies that you’ll be waiting a lifetime for a stable release.

@tarrick Agreed. I have two Extends. PLEX is still not aware of available tuners. If one of the four is busy, and I have two shows to record, one fails because PLEX can’t reach over to the other Extend and find an available tuner. This was fixed i 1.7.x, I believe, but my recordings never finished. I thought going up to 1.8.x would solve it, but no, I can’t record reliably on 1.8.x. So I’m using the HDHR DVR for now. Seems to be ok with the occasional audio burp and one bail out. Downside is interlaced playback on Amazon devices and no hope of Roku support ever. Are there other solutions that will run on a Symbology NAS and actually work?

Well… So far so good! I installed the box of tricks at my parents house and it seems to be working great!

In the box was a QNAP 251+ with 4GB (2GBx2) RAM, 2x4TB drives in RAID1 (in case one dies I’ll still be functional until I can make the trip to replace it), a HDHomerun Prime with Cisco CableCARD and Tunning Resolver, a Netgear GS105E ProSafe switch (so I can remotely bounce Ethernet ports if necessary), and a Gigabyte BRIX N2807 PC running Windows 7 and Chrome Remote Desktop to have a secondary “local” remote access to control everything. It also has Windows Media Center setup as a means for remote testing channels as well as the HDHomerun software for managing and updating the tuner.

Oh! All this is on a second Plex lifetime subscription account with only a single Apple TV 4 on the receiving end hooked up to a 4G LTE router for internet access.
