DVR constantly misses new airings

My Plex server has been constantly missing new airings. I would the 6 shows scheduled to record and then some would drop off completely from the list on the night of airings. For example I had Man With a Plan and Kevin Can Wait scheduled tonight. They are confirmed new airings but didn’t record.

Can you grab logs.

Running Version 1.12.1.4885, Windows 7,

Need logs: settings/Server/Help/Download Logs link. Post zip file downloaded here

I’m really new to plex and am having the same problem.

Just testing at first I was looking through the guide and saw a movie coming on in half an hour so I set it to record. Well it never did. I also scheduled a show to record and it recorded fine. So, I set a couple of shows to record all new airings in the future. They’ve both aired once and one recorded fine but the other didn’t. I just turned on logging on my server.

If you just turned on logging your logs won’t be of use really. When turning on the logging make sur eof the following:

  1. Debug logging is enabled
  2. Verbose logging is disabled
  3. Allow Plex tokens in logs is disabled.
Verbose logging should only be turned on when requested by a Plex Dev while they are working on an issue.

John, Sent you the file directly. Thank you for responding.

Logs only go back to this evening at 21:23 so they don’t cover time frame of the 2 shows recordings you mentioned.

Is there anyway go download further back?

The only thing that can be done is to configure Plex to store more logs than the default 5. With all the testing I do mine is set to 100, which would be larger than a normal user would need. You can change the default using the Advanced, Hidden Server Settings page, look for the LogNumFiles setting.

I found the directory. LogNumFiles is not on the list Ran a Control F also and it did not pull up anything. Is there anywhere else i can change or access this setting?

You mentioned you were running Windows earlier. The setting for Windows would be added to the Registry not to a file. The article linked above has the steps necessary to add the setting. After adding the new Registry Key I would suggest rebooting the computer.

Added the registry entry, I think, and reran the logs. Sent to you. Thx

I have the same thing happening. I have QNAP running Plex with 2 HDHomeRun CONNECT. On 3/29 it should have recorded 6 shows but only recorded 4 and on 3/27 should have recorded 7 shows but recorded 5. It is not exceeding 4 shows at any 1 time and it missed a show from 8-9 on CBS but then got the 9-10 show on CBS. Doesnt seem to be channel based. I have just turned on my logging and will wait until it misses a show and can post if it would help. There is another thread that sounds like the same issue forums.plex.tv/discussion/314321/plex-dvr-issues#latest . Seems to have started sometime in early March. I am on server version 1.12.1.4885. Also I have had this running for several months and it never missed a recording so it seems to be a new bug.

Update: Actually just found the larger post about the EPG andlooks like @johnm_ColaSC already submitted a ticket. From what I can tell my issue is related to that.

I’m having this issue as well. Which log file contains the recorder information?

I am having the same issue but NOT with new episodes. Mine seems to be recording new episodes fine but will not record repeats. Sometimes they say they recorded but they are nowhere to be found.

This software is really turning into GARBAGE! I am now dropping recordings like crazy and the issue is in that worthless EPG. I don’t know what deal they have with Gracenote but is is not up to what is needed. It seems that Gracenote is dropping some show data and when the system updates, the shows disappear from the EPG and don’t get recorded. Last night it dropped 2 shows and tonight, yet another one and the show was listed to record yesterday. I know that the show is still on because it is playing now. I really don’t understand why they don’t do an intelligent update instead of a full replace. IOW, don’t just remove shows that are not found, and question changes to existing data. Oh, I know, that would require more work. Does anyone have any information on the Tablo unit. I wonder if their EPG works any better than this one does because it really sucks anymore. Something tells me that this will be yet another delay in the grid view because if they can’t even get this one to work…

I have a Tablo and I stopped using it for Plex DVR a few months ago. The biggest reason I switched from Tablo to Plex was the lack of updates from Tablo and they didnt record directly to a NAS. Due to the recent issues with Plex and the EPG I have been forced to bring back my Tablo. I had hoped this would be a quick fix but this has been going on since early March, a ticket was submitted to Plex on March 14th, and still nothing has been done. The complete lack of support or way to submit a ticket to Plex is just pathetic. They charge $120 bucks for software and the only way to submit a ticket is to have a “Ninja” or Plex Employee do it via the forums. They also give little to no updates on issues. At least with the Tablo you can call/email/or submit a ticket for them when you have an issue and they get back to within 24 hours. But be ready to drop a lot of cash as Tablo is not cheap. When I got mine it was $150 bucks for a lifetime guide access and $300 bucks for the 4 tuner device.

The Tablo may not be cheep but it is a hell of a lot cheaper than the TIVO with their rippoff high monthly subscription and 6 month warranty on their equipment. I shouldn’t need to have a Hulu subscription to watch the large number of shows that PLEX continues to miss. Perhaps they should organize their teams to put more people to work on the real issues and put the BS features on the back burner for a while until they get the serious issues like this one fixed. It’s nor much of a DVR if it keeps dropping shows with no way to recover.
