DVR Device Not Found

Hey all,

I updated my Plex server running on FreeBSD (FreeNAS) to the latest package version available which is 1.7.2.3878.

Upon starting the server back up, my previously configured and set up DVR Tuner (an HDHomeRun DUAL) suddenly said, “Device not found. Ensure your device is powered on and connected to your network.”

Just out of curiosity, I went ahead and tried to add a new device and the HDHomeRun DUAL showed up in the list of devices to add. I completed the set up steps (scanning and linking channels). Now I have two devices with the same IP and info, but the original one still says it can’t be found.

Any clues as to why this would happen? Is this a bug? Did something in Plex’s configuration become corrupt when I updated the server? Previously I was on 1.7.1.3856.

I have included a screenshot for reference. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

No idea, but I doubt it matters. Delete the broken one, new one should work fine.

I’ve got the same issue. Updated to my Mac server to 1.7.2.3878 last night and the HDHomeRun Dual had the same “Device not found” error. I deleted it, re-added it, and today it is back to “Device not found”. Did not have this issue before the update that supports Live TV.

next time you see this, could you stop plex, trash logs folder, restart plex, if it still says ‘not found’ download logs from help menu in PMS and post here.

i’ll have a read through see if i can any see anything.

Thanks all for the replies!

As a test, I deleted the new tuner under settings and proceeded to downgrade back to the older version. The original tuner instance worked fine and did not report “not found.” This fact leads me to believe something changed in the update. Perhaps an identifier is no longer being read? (Hence why Plex wants me to add a new tuner and thinks the old one is disconnected.)

I appreciate your offer andyblac1974! I might take you up on it later this weekend. I’ll clear the logs and upgrade back to the new version and go from there.

It occurred to me that I hadn’t yet tested 4 simultaneous recordings with my hauppauge quadhd. Recording 4 at once seems to work, thought I haven’t yet looked at the recording quality. But, I noticed this during the time in which all 4 tuners were in use. Instead of the usual note that says 1 tuner in use, etc… PMS 1.7.2.3910

Can we get a log of this?

keithah, I first noticed this “device not found” error when I tested 4 simultaneous recordings. But, it seems maybe the two weren’t related. After the 4 recordings were done this error didn’t go away.

The error DID go away after I exited PMS and restarted it. That should be seen in logs.

Thanks, we have some folks looking into it!

I have tried to reproduce the 4 simultaneous recordings with my QuadHD here and I am not seeing the “Device not found” message.

We will keep looking into this…

@ech0wav3 would it be possible to get a DM from you with a link to your Plex database (you can make a backup from the Settings > Server > Help page in Plex Web.)

as I said above, I later determined the device not found error was probably not due to 4 simultaneous recordings. it’s just when I first noticed it.

I just started 4 simultaneous recordings again and everything looks fine.

I have a similar problem. I have an HDHomeRun Connect DVR, running the latest firmware (20161119). It worked fine on the previous DVR beta, but I moved and so am setting it up again. At first, I couldn’t add the DVR because Plex said it couldn’t find it, and putting in the IP manually did nothing. Clicking continue got to the channel selection, but it wouldn’t load the channels. This was particularly weird because when I select Setup Plex DVR, the first thing that happens is a banner across the top: “A new TV tuner (HDHomeRun CONNECT) has been found! Plex DVR is the easiest way to record your favorite shows!”

This morning, I got it to add the DVR, by ignoring the message that it could not find the DVR and clicking continue. This time, it found the channels, and downloaded the guide. But the minute I finished adding it, and went back to the DVR settings, it said that “Device not found.” That does not appear to be accurate, as I am able to watch a live stream on my phone.

Perhaps some setting from the DVR beta is confusing the Plex Server when trying to reconnect to a DVR it has previously seen?

Getting the same error on the Hauppauge quad card. I mentioned this previously (somewhere), but I was running NextPVR and thought maybe that was the conflict. I’ve since un-installed that and still have the issue.

This morning, both cards were showing the error, so I waited for a scheduled recording to start, deleted one of the cards, re-added it, and that one showed up as having an in-progress recording.

So it looks like recordings are still working, even with the error message showing.

I’m having the issue with Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q (The Xbox One model). Despite it saying “device not found”, it was able to stream live TV to my Roku. I tried restarting Plex and unplugging/replugging it in, but I still get the same result. I think rebooting the computer might be the only solution.

Plex cannot recognize my HDHomerun Prime tuner.

Hangs at this location.

I just started getting this too… did firmware update and resetup again… would not autodetect but typed in manual address… plex still thinks it’s not there… yet it is working

I am now getting this too, Mind you I have not tried for a few months. This is more for someone else who watchs TV via their iPad I have had no need to go in to change the settings but I need to do a channel scan

Same thing happening here. Had the tuner installed and working properly. As per PLEX instructions, I removed the tuner from plex and attempted to re-setup so I could transfer to a new XMLTV feed. (As per Step 3 https://support.plex.tv/articles/using-an-xmltv-guide/)
Now, It will not find the tuner. Just keeps spin-wheeling me!
Pulling my hair out!

I’m having the same issue with a HDHomeRun Connect Quattro. Shows not detected but I can watch tv. Plex would not find the tuner automatically. I entered the IP manually, it still did not show it detected but the continue button became selectable and it would move to the next page of the setup. But on that page it showed as a generic tuner not a HDHomeRun device. After setup it only says not found and won’t allow settings to be edited. Have there been any updates on dealing with this issue?
