Question about how the plex dvr works. I have some old tv series set to record all airings for some older shows. I know it looks for the episode to not record duplicates, but does it looks in all libraries? Reason I ask, is the dvr recordings are rather large, so I was going to re encode them, then move them to a TV Shows directory rather than a recordings folder.
No, it looks in the library you are recording to.
If your tv library has both /tv and /recordings it will look in both but if you have one library for /tv and another for /recordings it won’t.
As @Plex654 mentioned Plex only looks in your library you are recording to when checking for existing episodes. I record to one location, after recording is complete a script is executed every 5 minutes to move recordings from DVR location to another drive. After moved I manually convert mpeg2 DVR recordings to HEVC for permanent storage. Screenshot of my Library configuration.
