DVR ending recordings early

I run Plex on unRaid Version 1.13.4.5251
I know there have been updates, and can’t saw for certain what version this happened under (which I know doesn’t help)

The past few weeks or so I’ve found at Random my DVR recordings are ending early. The first one I just wrote off mentally as a glitch, but there have been 3 or 4 in the past month now. They show up in the Recordings section as being complete without fault. The file is simply short. In the latest example.
the recording was set on Sunday 7/8 from 8 to 10:45 PM and should have started 1 min early to 1 min late. The file started on time but ends at 2:04:25 in, showing no error.

I have debugging on now, but no idea when this will occur again. Does anyone have an idea what is causing this? If a recording comes up short again after tonight hopefully I’ll have a log file, but there is no telling when it will occur.

Thanks for any help.

Do you have commercial removal on? Could you share the Media XML for an affected file?

I didn’t even know the “remove commercials” option was there. Does that work well? I would think it would make too many errors to be useful.

Anyway, no it was not on,

Here is a zip of the xml file
Movie XML.zip (3.7 KB)

Looking at that, it shows that it started recording late, but nothing about it finishing early. If it occurs again, some logs would be much appreciated. The “remove commercials” option works fairly well, but results can vary from station to station and show to show.

So it did just happen again recently.
The movie is “A River Runs Through It”
It was supposed to run for 2 1/2 hours, but stopped after 1:02:21. It did start seemingly on time (1 min prior to showtime).

I am attaching both the XML zip file.
A River Runs.zip (3.1 KB)

Can the logs zip be sent pvt?

I need to resurrect this topic and ask for some additional assistance. After making a fix to my clock on the unRaid server BIOS, this problem has re-surfaced scattered in August and September. This time in a specific TV show (at least as far as I can tell right now). Previously it was in random movies. I only found out about it tonight as it’s still hit and miss. However, multiple shows that only recorded for 5 minutes. They are scattered and I can’t determine a pattern. I was not convinced the BIOS error was the cause because it never seemed this would cause an intermittent problem. Either the clock was off or not. It seemed to get better and only now finding recordings that were cut short again.

Please any help is appreciated.

Still needing some help here. Can anyone help with troubleshooting ideas?

I have this problem with EVERY recording I have.
Despite my setting the recording time to 5 mins before the recording start and 10 mins after end I STILL end up with recordings that cut off both the beginning and sometimes even the end.

Tried moving the 5 mins around between 10 and 20. still not working

I’m having this problem too. I do have “remove commercials” option turned on. The issue seams to happen with show 1 hour or longer, 30 min shows record without issue. I’m using plex server: 1.14.1.5488

I’m also having the same issue. I have 30 minute shows that use to record 29 minutes in 2017. Now they’re recording 20 to 23 minutes. They start on the right time, but they seem to end about 5-6 minutes short. When I reviewed all the records and since recording the shows, from Sept 7, 2017 the recordings were 29 minutes. Nov 30, 2017 the show started chopping off the endings and run for about 22 minutes now. I just checked my other sitcom shows and they all seem to cut off too…

No resolution?

I get this same behavior constantly as well. It happens even when I set the recording to record an extra few minutes.

mine are ending .5 to 1.5 hours early on 2 hour long shows. For example i tried to record the billboard music awards and it recorded for 33 minutes of a 3 hour long show. This is nuts that no one will even respond? i am reverting to a previous version in hopes that fixes it, as i have already done a complete uninstall (include registry deletion and plex folder deletion per the web guide).

This has become a rare issue for me lately. It’s random when it does occur and I have yet to find any reason. It sounds like some are seeing it a lot more often than I am. I would like to see someone at Plex respond and talk about how to resolve because it is pretty fundamental functionality for those of us that see it occur.

if there is any information we can provide to help solve it, please let us know.
