This perhaps should have a new topic, but can’t add a new one, so this seems the closest to the problem.
I just added a second HDHomerun Prime. The first one had 140 channels activated, the new one had 220. Both using the same EPD, comcast Palo Alto digital.
The guide only shows the 140 channels from the first HDHomerun Prime. I pulled the plug on it and tried to watch a live show, and it failed. It acts as though the second unit isn’t there.
I then removed the first unit from Plex, and was able to watch shows on the second unit. Had to re scan channels to get the total 220 channels I had selected.
Yeah, your issue isn’t really related. @sa2000 might be able to move it to a new topic for you.
Anyway, so you’re not left hanging, that’s not quite how it should work. You can add the other HDHR to Plex, but it will only be able to use the one EPG you already have configured (which shouldn’t be a problem).
Plex should only use the second HDHR device when no more tuners are available on the first one. So, it shouldn’t be used until you are already using the 3 tuners on your first Prime.
May I ask why 1 has 220 channels and the other only 140?
The reason for the discrepancy in channels was that there are so many (almost 600) channels, it takes time to sort out which ones you want for two tuners. Being able to select HD would be nice.
When I received the second tuner, I decided to add additional channel identifiers. Xfinity lists many of their HD channels twice - once starting at 700 and then at 1000. The 1000+ listing is better laid out - news, sports etc. together rather than all over the place.
I can live with one EPG. It looks like it uses the first added homerun. If that’s so, can I get selective on the first one, and then just select all on the second?
Yep. You may even find it easier to disable channels your don’t want through the HDHR web interface (http://my.hdhomerun.com/). Anyway, you could have only channel 1-200 on 1 HDHR and 1-500 on the second HDHR. So, if you go to watch channel 301, it will use a tuner on the second HDHR. If you go to watch channel 5, it will use a tuner on the first HDHR, unless its 3 tuners are already being used – then it will use a tuner on the second HDHR.
That’s how I hoped it would work. But what I found was that the EPG was only picking up channels 1-200 in your example. This was the first HDHomerun I installed.
I’ll do some more testing and see what I come up with.
I can look into this if you go through setup again and have debug logging enabled in Plex Media Server general advanced settings (not verbose - just debug)
Start with server fresh launch
So run first with the 140 channels DVR, Do refresh. Wait for it complete
Add 2nd DVR with the 220 channels selected. Do refresh and wait for it to complete
Get screenshot of the DVR Server settings page showing both tuners
Collect the server logs and upload the zip and screenshot
Great news - after deleting both HDHomeruns and re adding, they work great, just as you described. Thanks for all the help. Love the product, especially after all the live TV fixes
Well, I’ll take that back. To remove channels from the EPG, as well as removing channels from the HDHomerun scanned channels in the Live TV and DVR menu, you also have to reboot Plex. Without a reboot, the channels continue to show up in the Grid Guide menu. That’s in the Windows app. At one stage I had whittled both HDHomeruns down to 100 channels each (same ones) and the EPG had 300+ channels, many just showing the channel # and logo with no program info, while others were the hangover from prior larger channel selections.
But upon restarting Plex, everything great.
I tried something similar. I have both HDHOMERUN Extend (OTA) and HDHOMERUN Prime (Cable Card). It seems the single EPG for multiple tuners is the problem. In my case the two streams require different EPGs which isn’t possible with Plex. It turns out the DVR service of HDHOMERUN integrates the two streams and required EPGs flawlessly. The shows show up in plex player but permissions aren’t allowing me to delete HD recordings from Plex players. BTW I’m running Plex server on WD MyCloud PR2100 NAS which serves as the repository for Plex and HD recordings. Currently I’ve stopped using Plex DVR due to the single EPG limitation. I do miss the commercial removal service. I’d love to see Plex allow multiple EPGs. like the HD DVR service.
