I’ve been a long time plex user. With going back to the office, my wife and I kept missing jeopardy so we wanted to record it. We bought the monthly plex pass and it worked 100% of the time. Proving that it worked, we switched to the lifetime subscription. Since then it fails about 5/6 times. Is there anyway to figure out why Plex suddenly sucks? I checked to make sure I was running the latest server version.
When I look at the DVR schedule everything is there and Plex even tells me all the missing recordings have successfully recorded, but maybe only 1 episode shows up a week. Most of the time, I notice the recording doesn’t work because after it “finished” plex silently crashed.
I tried looking at server logs, but they appear to be in some binary format other than text?
Actually looking at DVR Recordings not saving after upgrade to 1.26.0.5715, I see that the release is just borked. I had some crashes on the older version so I upgraded. It turns out this one just doesn’t work and the last one I had recorded was probably when I was on the older version.
While this works more than other builds, it still crashes often. We use this for when we miss stuff. When we don’t miss it, it records fine. Unfortunately, we have bad luck and it literally has a 100% crash rate when we couldn’t watch it live and wanted to watch the recording.
Plex recently changed how they store date fields which has had a few unintended consequences with an impact to DVR and EPG processing. If you haven’t already, install 1.26.2.5797. It doesn’t fix all the problems but is more stable. Getting the logs via Server Settings > Troubleshooting > download logs will produce a .zip file that you drag and drop in a reply here so Plex can see what is going on. If you do that soon after a failed recording and say what failed it will help locate the problem.
