DVR Guide taking hours to update when it takes minutes on a normal cable box, lazy programming

Why in over 2 years since they started the Plex DVR service have they not made the EPG guide update more efficient? It appears the software downloads individual channels at a time and updates the database one channel at a time instead of just downloading all of the guide data as a bulk file, then loading the guide into ram and then saving the database directly to the HDD in one contiguous file instead of constantly appending the file, creating excessive I/O and making it unusable if using a mechanical HDD. How could this not be fixed already by now??? I have 400+ channels and it’s taking forever to update the guide because I do not have an SSD and the way the guide is updated makes it take forever on a mechanical HDD. Normal cable boxes with their piddly ram apparently can update a 1000+ channel guide in about 10 minutes, why can’t my desktop computer do the same or better? Their specs are far less ram and far less processing power.
