DVR - how to prevent grabbing of season/episode metadata

I use Plex DVR only to record sports events like Formula 1 for which I have created a series recording schedule.

Plex DVR seems to grab additional season & episode metadata from the web which leads to really bad results.

Lets take last weekends F1 race as example:
– all recordings are stored in a top folder named “Formel 1 (2012)” - that is the wrong year obviously…
— then comes a sub-folder named “Season 2022” - at least the year is correct now I guess
---- all files inside this folder are named Formel 1 (2012) - … YEAR WRONG AGAIN!!!
------ Episode numbers are a mess - the order is completely wrong.:
--------- pre qualifying coverage E268
--------- qualifying Analysis E267 (???)
--------- pre race countdown E279
--------- Race Highlights E225 (???)

How can I prevent Plex DVR from grabbing additional season/episode information entirely - and just use the EPG data instead?

@c_holzer You can set your library settings to use only local metadata, but be aware that the year of the Formula 1 (in this case 2012) will still come from the data that is in the EPG.

I have the following selected for the “Series Recordings” Library: “Agent=PersonalMediaShows”

Yet I got all that broken season/episode data - or do you mean a different setting?

@c_holzer My setting are as follows and it only uses data from the EPG, if you are seeing wrong data using these settings then it’s the EPG that has the wrong data and not anything that is being downloaded from the internet.

Yup we both use the same settings.

I have tried to switch EPG providers (by selecting a different provider with the same channels in the channel mapping portion of the DVR setup) but I still get the same false season/episoide data.

As I am located in Austria, I understood this post to say that all my EPG data is provided by Gracenote - without an option to turn that off or use a different provider.

@c_holzer If you are referring to the episode and year data as per your original post, then that data is correct and not false. The modern day F1 started in 2012, so any races before that year is considered to be vintage. The way TV shows are categorized is from the year they start, in this case as modern day F1 started in 2012 that’s why you have the 2012. The Episode numbers are the episode of each section, Qualifying has it’s own Episode numbers compared to the race shows. It is very confusing, but you have to remember that F1 is not just shown in your country, but all over the world, so some of the episode numbers may appear out of order to you depending on what episodes have been shown in your country.

So each event of a race weekend is treated essentially like its own show?
Am I the first F1 fan who uses Plex/gracenote who thinks that this is really stupid and brings it up?

Yeah… P1, P2, Q/Sprint, race and then all the pre- post coverage recordings are completely out of order with that system.

E225 race highlights
E267 qualifying Analysis
E268 pre qualifying coverage
E279 pre-race countdown

I really want to get rid of that stupid episode data for my recordings and just have it use the title/name/date instead so that the order is correct.

@c_holzer I’m a fan of F1 myself and based in the UK, to be honest I’ve not come across anyone that I know that bothers to look at the episode numbers for F1.

If it bothers you that much, it maybe possible to use some kind of video editing software to change the metadata manually, thought this would have to be done on a per episode basis and would take too much of your time.

My problem is that the recordings show up in the wrong order.

So lets say I watched the pre Qualifying coverage and would now like to watch the actual qualifying next - then this is not the next “episode” in the list due to the Episode number mess.
I have to go hunt for that recording which is “somewhere” else in the list of recordings.

@c_holzer If you goto the DVR Schedule tab on the Live TV section then you will see what shows have been recorded and you will be able to easily pick which one you want to watch without having to go hunting.

Sure, that is a valid workaround.

But since I not only record Formula 1 I use the “series recordings” library to play recordings.
So it would be really nice to have them appear in the right order there - like literally every other sport event I record does.

@c_holzer That’s why I never use the series recordings function. I always only set to record each TV show individually, this method may appear long winded, but it does save a lot of time when it comes to keeping track of TV shows.

for me it works fine - except for F1
