@sa2000 I hope I’ve not caused to midi of an headache since sending you the logs from my laptop also? I’ve also had the same issue on the laptop with it connected to the Ethernet also.
I’ve discontinued other Plex users use of the live TV till the issue is fixed, as my 3 year old son just can’t keep watching TV then it falls over for no reason, I hope you understand?
@sa2000 No problem! But this same issue is what we’ve been having in the web browser also, and looking through the logs it does come up a little with HTTP in the warnings if I’m correct?
@sa2000 It’s happening here on the TV mode also of PMP, not sure what to do at present? Any update on what is happening?
It’s getting frustrating now, it seems someone has only got to fart or sneeze in the wrong direction and it drops from the Laptop on both Ethernet and WiFi and also WAN/Fibre BB to my users that I share the TV with…
Any updates would gratefully received…
Had to reboot my Server in the end and all 6 Receivers are up and running for the time being, but it’s getting beyond a joke…
@sa2000 latest issue is now only 1 channel can be tuned or recorded at a time, issues are just getting on top of issues, you can only see some issues in the logs, and Plex Guru’s just won’t send the developers the issues to let them know, it’s like having Brexit but in Software terms, and as such, Plex promised a lot but hasn’t delivered, just like the UK Government at present!
Can we finally have something that works before Christmas this year? Or are we going to be dragged into 2019 having to reboot our servers on a weekly basis to get out of a TV Tuner issue as a temporary fix till finally either Plex is fixed or the owners well Plex to a company that knows how to do streaming properly and we get a service that actually works…
My last question for the day is, when will 1.14.1xxx be released? And have the developers fixed issues instead of adding to them?
Sorry, but this is how I now feel about Plex, and I think a good many others think the same, I have 6 TV Tuners and only able to currently use 1 it takes the euro in so many ways after purchasing 3 DuoHD tuners…
Wondering if this there is an update on this as well, after the last few PMS updates as it keeps returning “There was a transcoder error” when starting recordings.
So DVR is completely non-functional for a while now and hope the Plex team can give it a bit higher priority.
Tuner: HDHomeRun EXPAND (EU version) Plex Media Server: 1.14.0.5470
Hi @sa2000,
It happens on all the devices, not sure if you’ll see it in the logs as I’ve only just downloaded them from the server. The time in question was between 1800 and 2000 and I noticed it on my Cubot Max Smartphone first IP Address for this device is 192,168.0.4, then I tried it on my Laptop and the same thing.
To add to the answer about this issue, the last time it happened it was across all devices, and browsers, so it’s not just confined to a specific OS or device, but the issue I’ve not tried it on the server itself as this only serves to stream movies etc, but I do have intentions to use it connected to a Surround Sound system soon for Family Movie nights…
Hi @sa2000
I ran PMP from the Server itself and here’s the outcome… a Playback error, logs are attached for you to amuse yourself with, but I doubt it’ll be any use. Time that the error occurred was 1406
@sa2000@ChuckRA Any update on this? We’re all in the dark… I know you mentioned that 1.14.100 or whatever the build number is, is in QA? Is that short for Quit Altogether? Or Quality Assurance, if it’s the latter, then I do hope it’s better this time around… But somehow, I greatly fear that Live TV section will get overlooked and some other “New” Feature will creep in as it’s easier to add features than fix something that got advertised so much on launch and now seems it’s being left out to dry… Call me cynical, but after the last 3 months or more, I know I’m not the only one thinking this now…
Plex has been an integral part of media sharing in my household for almost 6 years, and to see it now have so many issues, makes me think developers just don’t care about Quality anymore, they just want to rush things out… A little bit like Microsoft do with Windows 10, but these are my views.
Anyway, here’s hoping we get something soon… I know I’ve posted enough logs to help fix the issues…
Release 1.14.1 beta will be out shortly - the release is imminent
It addresses a number of DVR and Live TV issues - most notable being the one that you did encounter is the 10 second timeout on tuning and there is also fix for the HD/SD issue when HD Only is selected for recordings
Your issue with Plex Media Player and Plex Web failures after watching live tv for a while has been referred in the first instance to the web / plex media player team
Plex Media Server 1.14.1.5487 has just been released as Beta. It has a fix for the issue of Channel tuning failures due to a 10 second timeout triggering when tuners take longer
See Release Notice
(DVR) Wait longer to detect duration during live TV transcoder startup (#9437)
(We are aware that even with this fix there may still be timeouts on some USB or PCIe tuners - Please ensure firmware updated to latest available. There is a need to establish if this issue of tuning needing more than 15 seconds to start is widespread - so please provide logs for any continuing tuning errors after updating to 1.14.1.5487)
Hi @sa2000
Here’s the logs from the latest version of PMS within the last 90 minutes, it had dropped twice, but surely if other Media Servers can do the job without a 10-15 second timeout, Plex should be able to do this also?
Anyway, I am running the latest firmware for the WinTV DuoHD tuners, and I’ve attached the logs from the latest Playback errors…
The Laptop is 192.168.0.19 and my phone which was working all the way through even when the Laptop dropped the first time is 192.168.0.4
This issue really really needs to be fixed… it’s crazy!!
mw0dcm, I think there are many Live TV/DVR users that unknowingly will be owing you a debt of gratitude for your persistence here. I bought a plex pass on Nov 8 and, for a month, I experienced the EPG problems that everyone had and I expect I had a number of the problems mentioned in this long thread. I didn’t have the time or ambition to basically act as a QA tester after paying money to get the TV/DVR features. So I gave up and asked for a refund. I was sad, because I have used Plex for more than two years and been extremely happy. So the very negative plex pass experience was quite a shock. Good luck with your TV viewing.
The timeout i was mentioning is to for the start of livetv - timing out whilst tuning a channel and has no relevance to the playback dropouts after viewing starts
It is the same as the last set of evidence where Plex Media Player stops the viewing of livetv after a while. Was it different channel from the one viewed on the Android (CUBOT MAX) device
As I mentioned before, this needs to be investigated initially by the Plex Media Player and Web team and if there is any Plex Media Server issue that would need to be identified from that investigation. The previous evidence was referred to the team.
What may help whilst waiting for the PMP / Web team to look at the evidence provided, is finding out the difference in how the livetv is being transcoded for android and for PMP. I can see that transcode segments for PMP are taking about a second each to be generated by the transcoder, whereas for the android several segments a second are being produced.
I would therefore like to see logs for the start of livetv session for each of the android and PMP. I believe in your last set of evidence the channels were tuned at 16:14 and 16:15. With verbose logging, the logs only cover 25 minutes - and the failure was at 16:40 with logs captured at 16:48 and logs only go back to 16:23 - similar issue with the 2nd failure
So please. repeat the test and start livetv sessions for different channels on the android device and on Plex Media Player and whilst it is working fine, capture logs from the server - so suggets 5 minutes after starting livetv sessions on both android and PMP. That would allow me to see what transcode options are being used in each case.
Then as before capture the logs after PMP stops the session and again - please collect PMP logs as well
@Rick164 Nice to know Homerun devices have been sorted, now for Hauppage WinTV!! Strange thing is I run PMP in Web mode and it falls down like a dog after a random time as my Logs show within 90 minutes of updating to the latest version of PMS, but put PMP in TV mode, which I hate with a passion because the TV guide is so rubbish it hurts, it works like a charm, been streaming TV for over 6 hours on one of the channels that I watch a lot!
This is what I mean about the EPG in TV Mode, the Channel names are none existent and to top it off it doesn’t show both SD and HD channels if there’s 2 of the same channel as there is here in the UK!!
@MovieWiz Ah, I’m stubborn, always have been and I’m passionate about Plex to see it come to a steaming pile of mess.
@sa2000 I’m going to throw a spanner in the works for you on this one, as you’ve read above, I’ve had PMP in TV mode streaming for hours without any hitches, but as soon as I go back into Web mode it seems the Transcoder does something different, and as such I cannot get Plex to fall down in this mode at all, my only moan is as I said above, the Guide/EPG in TV mode sucks and needs revamping on all Devices like Xbox/PS4/Roku and PC, on Android it shows the channel names so this is great.
So @sa2000 Android doesn’t fail either, so how would you like me to play it, I’m going to be busy till late tomorrow evening but after that and as long as my Girlfriend doesn’t go into Labor I can do any other tests you need me to do??
OK so PMP working in TV Mode, that reduces the impact - so it is working on all devcies that you use apart from web and PMP in Web mode. I will feed that back to the team.
Could we get the web log of the failure - may be it is a shaka error
(i am still interested in comparing the transcoder jobs for each of android and PMP - so my previous request stands)
But we could now - if you have any time still - get also the web log so in addition - after starting PMP in web mode, select settings / web / show advanced / debug / set verbose logging in web. And after the playback error - note down the time and go to settings / web / show advanced / debug / view logs / select all and copy and save to text file and have that together with the server logs
@sa2000 My apologies for this even I was confused on that day with everything that had been going on here with Hospital visits etc. I shall do it tomorrow evening and will send you both logs. Would you like me to run Plex in Browser also or just PMP? I know the same issue shows in both, so I think, if that’s ok with you, I’ll do it in PMP in Web mode?
If it’s a shake issue, this should be easy to fix, I hope?
I’ll be back tomorrow afternoon with logs from both for you with Verbose switched on.
Fingers crossed it’s fixed once we know the issue…
Lets stick to PMP - otherwise the actual browser used may be a factor as often different browsers give different outcomes !!
Experiment first with PMP in web mode to see that you can get verbose web logging. Please check the text that you copy from the log page for any token and if you find a token logged, send me the file by private message
