I’ve just signed up for a Plex pass so I can get Plex DVR/Live TV working at home.
I have the latest Plex server installed on my laptop and the Plex app from the play store installed on my Android TV (with aerial connected and channels tuned etc).
However when I search for the TV from the “SETUP PLEX DVR” button on Plesk server it just loads forever and doesn’t find anything, even when I input my TV’s IP address manually.
I’ve cancelled the Plex pass for now, but I’d love to get this working so would appreciate any help.
My Android TV has a built in tuner, is that not enough? The Plex website says Android TV is supported and it’s really not clear how to make that setup work.

Than!
I’m in the same boat. I signed up for a monthly account - thankfully not longer! And I can’t connect to my Sony Android TV either. From what is said above it could be that no apps will ever be able to pick up the tuner inside the TV. Shame There’s no way I would pay for an additional TV tuner on top of the tuner thats already inside my TV. This looks like a massive shortcoming unfortunately. Never mind. I will cancel plex pass too for now.
Yes I agree. The set up guide should be far clearer at the start. The initial screens I saw made it look like live tv was naitivley available on android. It’s only after I attempted setup and then spent another 2 hours looking at various support forums and help screens (these should be directly linked on the home page) that it became evident an additional tuner was needed. It’s crazy lying £600 for a tv plus £3.99 a month and then have to buy and additional tuner on top of it. I appreciate this probably isn’t plex’s fault.
We have a ‘supported tuners’ list which clearly spells out which tuners we support.
In addition, because of how locked down TV’s are, no app can ever use the tuners inside them. Blame your vendors for not opening that stuff up. I’ve personally spoken to Sony execs and they don’t care at all and have no interest in this.
Maybe their users will be able to have a stronger voice.

Some Panasonic TVs have a SAT>IP server built in so you can use their tuner
Keithah I just think it would be useful to add an asterisk to your
marketing to say that Android TVs still require an external tuner, it’s
obvious that technically there isn’t anything Plex can do.
Interestingly after doing a little more digging I found this recent quote on an alternative software forum: “Starting with Marshmallow, I can now access the integrated tuners of my Sony Android TV via the Live Channels app.”
Not sure if I’m allowed to mention what software but it’s the popular one that starts with K. I was seeing if I could add live tv using that. I much prefer the plex interface and overall experience though so my fingers will remain crossed!
You’re allowed to say anything. Kodi you mean, can access the tuners?
The thing is, even if we got tuner access, the Sony TV doesn’t have enough processing power to run Plex Media Server, and the tuner would not be exposed as a network tuner, so we’d have to find a way to put PMS directly on it.
