Sony Android TV support for Live TV?

I keep reading Plex Live TV is supported on Android TV but I am not having any luck getting it to work on our new Sony XBR75X940D Android TV. Does anyone know why this is or if this is targeted as a supported client platform?

You can run the client on that TV no problem. You need to install the latest Plex Pass build (1.7.2.3878) of Plex Media Server somewhere and you need a supported tuner configured, and it should just show up in the client once it’s configured correctly.

I just checked and my Plex media server is current (Version 1.5.5.3634) but isn’t the version you show above. Any idea what I can do to install the version you indicate above? I already have successfully configured my HD Prime Homerun and have successfully recorded using the DVR feature as accessed from my browser on a PC. I have also successfully played back using my Sony TV Plex client but cannot find live TV capability anywhere on my Sony TV Plex app. Ideas?

From the Plex.tv/downloads page login and turn on the Plex Pass downloads. The Version 1.7.2 download will then appear.

on what platform is your media server? Without 1.7.2.xxx it’s not going to show the live tv options…

Thanks guys - once I downloaded the special version indicated above (I never say any instructions on this before and my Plex server said it was updated) I can now see live TV on my Sony Android TV. I do notice the picture quality is not as good as what I get using Windows Media Center - anyone have any idea why that would be???

Go into Settings > Video > Display information and if it says ‘Video: transcoding’ at the top, it’s because PMS thinks your Sony TV requires it for some reason…

Also, under Server Settings, you can change ‘update channel’ from ‘Public’ to ‘PlexPass’ and it should fix it.

Thanks very much as the second item above (changing from Public to PlexPass) seem to have improved the picture. I still don’t get as high of quality live TV picture as using Windows Media Center (trying to move away from this solution) in conjunction with my HDPrimeHomeRun but better.
