Plex Live TV

My wife and I were looking forward to enjoying Plex with Live TV. However, I can’t seem to get things to work no matter how hard I try. I have a Dell T30 Server with Windows 10 and Plex Media Server installed on an SSD. For recordings, I have two 1 GB drives with plenty of space for recordings. My tuners are 2 Silicon Dust Extends, each with two tuners. I have three Samsung TV’s with Smart features and Plex is installed on all three. I also have a Samsung S5 Android phone. I have been able to watch several sample recordings I have made but the playback loading took over five minutes and video was less than stellar. “Watch” is not shown as an option on any items in the Program Guide. Obviously, I could use some help.

The players for the following operating system currently support watching live TV from your Plex DVR:
Android (mobile) (v6.3 or newer)
Android TV (v6.3 or newer)
Apple TV (v1.14 or newer)
iOS

Samsung Plex app isnt supported at the moment

Well, I can only blame myself for not reading more carefully. First, I used Windows Media Center, then I tried Silicon Dust’s go at it, and now, it’s Plex! One would think that if Microsoft could figure out live tv and recording, others could as well. I’m sure it’s complicated but there has to be a way. I am very, very disappointed with my Plex Pass subscription. :frowning:

You haven’t provided any information on what version of Plex Media server you are running. If you are not on 1.8.0 you would not see Live TV on your Samsung S5. If you are on 1.8.0 is your app on the Samsung S5 6.3?

I am running Plex Media Server 1.8.0.4109. My Samsung app is 6.3.1.1317. Other information is Windows 10 Pro on Server, Zeon 1225 V5, 8GB. Clients include Windows 10 (4), Samsung Galaxy S5 (2), Samsung televisions (3) all with Smart features and Plex app added.

So you are on a supported server release, and from what I understand the mobile app is a good version as well. We get many posts on the forum that say they are on the latest release and when asked they are on the latest Public release, currently 1.7.5.4035 and not the latest actual Plex Pass release. I do not have an Android Mobile device to test with but have seen some other comments on the forum regarding logging out of the app on the mobile device and logging back in, or possibly removing the app and reinstalling.

On your phone if it doesn’t work you can use VLC as the external player. android plex app>hamburger(settings)>settings>advanced>player> “use external player” and choose VLC after you install the VLC app of course from the play store.

Or you can install this awesome Plex Channel and stream live tv to all of them:

so far it appears that Android and Android TV devices running Nougat (7.x) are working fully, but Live TV is failing on phones or boxes reported as running Marshmallow (6.x) or earlier

Works fine on android OS 4.x

Using an external player for live TV on my Android worked for me.

100% does NOT work on my Xiaomi Mi box running android 6.x. No matter what troubleshooting I’ve done Live Tv doesn’t work , just gives me a spinning Wheel when I try to tune into a channel.

The resort of Plex works fine and I can play my movies and Tv shows.

Install the beta for Nougat (android 7)

@SiscoPlex
I considered it but I have read reports of people who have done so and ended up with issues as well as being unable to revert back to stable Android 6. Also it’s uncertain if once you’ve installed it you can ever have the device auto update again? Have you done it by any chance?
