DVR matching to existing shows - Is there an override?

I have both “Doctor Who” (the original 1963) series and “Doctor Who (2005)” (the new continuation after a decades-long gap)

Am in the U.K. and want to fill some gaps in the original show with recordings from British Forces TV (Freesat channel 165 British Forces TV (BRITFRC)). The show title is simply “Doctor Who” and yet the DVR has matched those shows into “Doctor Who (2005)”, the wrong one.

Is there a way of overriding the automatic matching (like Fix Match but prior to recording) or could one be added? Since these are existing shows, would be good to be able to control this.

My suggestion would be to perform all DVR recordings to dedicated libraries, one for movies and one for TV shows. Then, selectively (and manually) move items to your “regular” libraries as desired; though I generally just keep my DVR and regular libraries segregated. I understand that this method may result in some duplicated episodes between the two TV show libraries for you; in that case you would move the ones you need and delete those which you do not.

But, to answer your actual question, no, there is no way to override the matching for DVR’d content without some form of manual intervention (moving and renaming files after they’ve been recorded).

Which is the partial solution is also hit upon… but which has one problem… I use DVR to plug holes in my collection for the old show whilst also grabbing episodes of the new show. The problems in the DVR matcher would put all the episodes for both shows together in the same show. Not usually a problem but could cause overwrites if, in the same day, I was downloading S08E01 for both shows (hey, could happen). Only really horrible solution is to have different DVR libraries for different shows which might clash.

Where can I ask for a feature request to override the matcher for DVR so that Doctor Who from BBC1 always goes to the new show, but from the old archive channels will go to the old show?

Answering your last question first, you can make feature suggestions here:

Having said that…

Are you sure? I’ve not recorded Dr. Who specifically, but I’ve not had problems with other series like this. For example, Battlestar Galactica; I’ve recorded both series at the same time in the past with no mixing (to a dedicated DVR library). If that does occur, it likely has more to do with guide data.
