DVR plays wrong channels (BBC One HD instead of BBC One SD)

Server Version#: 1.13.5.5332 (Windows)
Player Version#: Apple TV (Latest)
Win-TV QuadHD (2 Tuners)

Firstly, setting up the WinTv was a little strange, I don’t seem to get the same channel lists on both tuners, and then have to manually select and associate with the guide.

The main problem is that I’m in the Granada (UK) North West area so for channel 1 (BBC) I should get BBC North West but in fact get BBC One HD (London) which means I dont get regional programming.

Tried to remove and re-add the DVR but no luck. Not sure if this is an Apple TV issue or Plex Issue.

So to update on this, it appears to be an Apple TV app issue as if I select the channel through the web interface I get the correct regional version of BBC One.

A workaround for this is to deselect BBC One HD from the manage channels list, this forces the Apple TV app to correctly pick the regional BBC One channel.

How do I raise this as an issue with the Plex team?

By post here as you have already. They may or may not notice. They may or may not get around to fixing it.

Can you give some exact replication steps, please?
Also ensure you’re running the latest server and tvOS app.

Hi, confirmed I’m running the Apple tvOS version 1.3.

Using Windows Server 2016 standard build 1607.
Hardware: Hauppauge WinTv Quad HD

Steps to reproduce;

  1. Go to TV & DVR and Set Up Plex DVR
  2. Click first of two PCIe Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD
  3. Select “Scan Channels” using DVB-T/T2 UK (Full Frequency Range) / Also tried DVB-T UK (Winter Hill, Granada)
  4. Once channel list loads, Select channels and programme guide (using local postcode M5)
  5. Complete set-up
  6. Repeat for other tuner.
  7. on Apple TV, from channel list select 1. BBC One North West.

Expected Result:
Apple Tv Loads channel 1 BBC One North West

Actual Result:
Channel 101 (BBC One HD London) is displayed instead. This can only be detected at 18:30 when regional programming shows local news. BBC One HD shows London news. Other times this can be detected is 00 and 30 past the hour from 06:00 to 09:15 when BBC one breakfast is on and the regional news update is shown.

Let me know if you need more information, logs etc.

Thanks for the detail. There was a problem like this on web and that was corrected recently.

Could you get me logs from the server and the Apple TV app and the time of the problem arising and if your test is still for the same channel as you mentioned before

Please do your test after restarting the server (ensuring debug logging enabled before the restart) and waiting 10 minutes after the restart before repeating the test

and for Apple TV logs

Thanks

This is being looked into by the development team

Just to add, using Plex Media Player on Windows 10 has the same (ish) problem for me. I used to be able to click on the “…” from the show options so you could select the channel. This has not worked for a few months.

BBC 1 in the UK is not the same on channels 1 and 101. 101 is the generic country channel and no.1 will show regional content. There isn’t too much of a difference until you want to watch the news.

We had to put up with it or use BBC iPlayer app… Even when I changed my client to a Shield, it still has the second problem.

We’ve stopped use live TV in Plex since moving to Shield as we can use the native Hdhomerun app… So we only use Plex for DVR.

When I ran into this. I changed the scan channels and updated which channels the epg was attaching to. Basic but it works

The issue I have referred to the development was for Plex for Apple TV / Plex for iOS.
If you have the same issue for other client apps, please could you get some logs / screenshots showing the channels you have selected in DVR Settings and what channels are being displayed in the client and if what you select is not respected and you get a different channel

Hi sa2000, the Win10 box is offline (broken), we only use a Shield now.

You can watch channel “1” via web, the win client just won’t play the correct version (SD) even when selecting the channel.

I will try it from my laptop shortly.

Please raise a new topic and include screenshots and logs - “won’t play the show” has nothing to do with having an SD channel selected instead of HD and vice versa

Done and done. And just to add, I changed my previous post as I was not clear, “won’t play the show” should have been “won’t play the correct version of the show”… But I did explain this correctly in my first response/post to this thread.
