I’m in the UK and I’m having a problem with trying to watch regional TV, specifically BBC 1 news… I can select a programme to watch, then attempt to select which to channel to watch it from, it still only plays the HD version.

To add more context, BBC 1 HD (channel 101) shows the “country wide” version of BBC1; now channel 1, this shows regional TV which is mainly the same as channel 101 but when it comes to new it’s regional.

I’ve attempted to evidence this with a currently showed TV programme called Bodyguard. If I go in and attempt to tell it to use the SD channel of BBC1, channel 1 - BBC1 EYL, it still comes through as HD, thus it’s not using the SD version.

I also went into the PMS web version and when loading the programme, it’s definatly in SD (quality of image) and when I try and change the quality, it displays/knows the fact it’s not in 1080p.

I have a similar problem. Using the Plex app on the Nvidia shield. When I select BBC 1 (SD) it plays BBC HD (channel 101). This is the same for all the channels that have HD channels

I am looking into similar issues at the moment relating to selecting HD Only for recording and may end up with SD channel selected. This specific issue can be circumvented by selecting recording option to specify the actual HD channel as well as selecting HD Only

Is the problem here for Plex Media Player only?

As Henrooo as said, Shield TV seems to be doing the same also.

I have been trying to reproduce the problem but have not managed it yet. Could you get screenshots and Plex Media Server logs that cover the sequence of showing the grid, picking an HD episode and setting up a recording with HD Only option and then logs again when the recording starts and completed

For server logs see

These are already posted above. Just to clarify this isn’t about setting recordings as such, this is more about watching live TV.

The two following images (the first two in my first post) show me attempting to watch the SD channel:

Thereafter, the images I posted are me attempting to evidence that what I observed was actually HD and not SD in PMP. This is based upon me attempting to look at the resolution/quality of the stream.

I followed this up (very last image) by using the Web GUI (from PMS), where I watched the SD channel and could confirm this by attempting to change the resolution/quality.

The logs I’ve posted were taken just after running these tests. From a time perspective, the logs only need to be looked at from the last 5 (maybe 10) minute period. This is because I ran the tests and then immediately grabbed the PMP and PMS logs.

Just to add, looking at my images and log time stamps. The time-frame of my testing is between 22:00 (maybe 60 seconds before to be safe?) and 22:08.

I do not have any usable logs to look at
Please see my post which links to a support article showing how to enable Debug Logging

After enabling it, please restart the server and reproduce the problem and acquire the client app logs and server logs and screenshots and send me your server token by private message and i will then respond advising on how to make the requests in a browser so we get the xml back that i need to look at

There does appear to be an issue and I have been investigating on this forum topic Plex HDHomerun DVR “HD Only” resolution not working

I now have the right diagnostics to refer it to the development team

Plex Media Server 1.14.1.5487 has just been released as Beta. It has a fix for the HD Only issue where it gets ignored when selected for scheduled recordings

See Release Notice
