I noticed that my DVR was recording an episode of a show that I had already recorded (apparently that show has an encore airing that airs the next day). I stopped the repeat recording, only to discover that it recorded over the original recording. So now I have only 8 minutes of an hour-long show (and I refuse to have incomplete episodes of shows, so I deleted it). Anyone know how to keep that from happening again?
I haven’t seen this, but if it’s a series recording, make sure it’s set to “only new episodes” in the recording options. It would make sense that this (or something similar) would occur if you have it set to “new and repeat episodes”.

I have mine set to “New and Repeat”, but I was told that if I already had that episode recorded, it wouldn’t re-record it. I guess that was a misinformed lie.
I have mine set to “New and Repeat” and I get multiple recordings. The second recording’s name will end in a (1).
I have all of the shows I record setup as series with new and repeat selected. I never get a new recording of the same episode unless the resolution of the new episode is better than the existing recording. i used to get this all the time but that was when I was recording to one library and then moving recordings to my library for shows. Once I changed to recording to my show library Plex quit recording multiple copies of episodes.

Apparently you’re just the lucky one, given the two posts above. As I said, I’ve never seen the behavior you describe, but almost all of my shows are set to record new episodes only.
When I first setup my DVR back in December I was seeing multiple recordings for episodes I already had because I was not recording to a library with the shows I already had. I originally setup my DVR to record to a DVR library as part of my Post Processing recordings were move to the TV library. Once I started recording to the actual TV library this behavior ceased and I only got recordings for episodes I did not have or episodes that the new airing was a higher resolution. If you are seeing all episodes recorded I would question how you are recording and where the original episodes are at. Would also question if you are optimizing episodes which would also possibly cause what you are seeing as multiple copies of the same show.
