New here, I couldn’t find a similar thread. My apologies if I missed this.
I’ve been having trouble playing back recorded shows. When I attempt to play a show the wheel spins until it eventually times out and throws a playback error check connection. Live TV works just fine. For the past year or so I’ve had no issues with recording and playback. This issue only appeared within the past 2 months (roughly). I suspect it’s a software or settings issues as my hardware has not changed.
For my setup I have a Mac Mini M4 server, HDHomeRun Flex 4 tuner and I’m running my Plex client on a Google TV streamer.
I’ve been using AI to try and troubleshoot with no success. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It’s best to download the server logs (in the Settings page on the Web App and at the bottom under the title Manage click on Troubleshooting then download the logs). Upload the zip file here and someone can go through them to look for issues. I would try and watch one of those shows again and if you get the error download the logs after that so that way it will show up in a recent log file.
Looking through the logs might I suggest that you re-install the previous version of PMS. The current version (the one your on) came out about 3 weeks ago and if you haven’t changed anything hardware wise then the issue might be the new release. I know there have been transcoding issues with the past release or so (don’t know if they are affecting the Mac), but your logs are screaming transcoding errors right off the bat.
If you go to your data directory you should find your previous three updates and you can reinstall one of those from there. Otherwise you can grab one from here.
I appreciate the feedback. Just wish that Plex would update the service to work without having to dial back software to previous version. I tried to go back and was unsuccessful. Maybe a problem with my external SSD. That I’m recording to.
Assuming that this was all DVR’d media files from a HDHomerun I will skip the files are badly formatted and go to the Codecs folder didn’t update properly.
You are posting the web app version and not the server version which is under the server settings further down Server Settings > General
Two other problems, your port forward isn’t setup properly on your router for Remote Networking and DNS-Rebind is blocking Plex from setting up a local server address for the CERT which has various side effects.
Not a Mac person but the Codecs should be in:
~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Codecs/ or /Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Codecs/
Stop Plex and delete all but the .device-id file in the directory/subdirectories. Start Plex and it will redownload the Codecs provided there are no permission issues.
