DVR Related Issue Creating Two Instances of Same Episode

I run 3 HDHomeruns on my single Ubuntu based Linux server:
Two are HDHomerun Connects
One is a HDHomerun DUAL

Much like the thread here: Plex Showing The Same File Twice

I am seeing instances where my DVR’s record the same exact instance of the show twice with the exact same file name and this then shows up as having multiple versions of the show. See the following xml from this episode of Blood & Treasure:

The major deltas I was able to find is between the two items is the mediaGrabDevice:
device://tv.plex.grabbers.hdhomerun/104EC027
vs
device://tv.plex.grabbers.tunerservice/dvb%23hdhr%231039012E

I’m fairly certain the 104EC027 is one of my Connects, where as the 231039012E is my DUAL but I haven’t checked yet.

The linked thread indicates I should do manually update the library, then empty the trash, then clean the bundles. This does not resolve the issue.

Any recommendations?

This still shows two episodes, no one has any suggestions?

For anyone else who has this, the only way I got the duplicate versions to go away was to rename the file to a non-video extension, update, empty trash, clean bundles, rename the episode back and rescan to add it back into the library.

When I do this, the media grabber info is removed from the xml so the database looses that information when going through this process.

I’m still not sure what caused it in the first place.

I continue to get duplicate recordings on some TV shows and not others. I’m cancelling those recordings and restarting my plex server and then rescheduling them to see if that cures the issues.

I am seeing something similar. Did you have any luck canceling the recording and rescheduling?

This was happening with one program. Canceling the recording and rescheduling seemed to work.

I won’t actually know until tonight when it attempts to record again.

It appears to have fixed the one detailed here, but now another show that wasn’t doing it before has done it. I’ll continue to monitor but I am not sure what root cause is here and it doesn’t appear to be registering as an issue to anyone else.

I haven’t seen the issue since canceling and rescheduling the show as well…To me it seemed to happen when I scheduled a new show to record on the really buggy version of PMS 1.15.8.1163…

Been on Server Version 1.16.0.1220 for a while now and the solution was short lived, double recordings occurred again tonight on the original reported program. So no solution after all.

No one else has this problem or can recommend a solution to me?

Checked my log files and verified in the Plex Media Server logs that it’s kicking off two instances of the same record to the exact same location but with different process id’s, see the following two snippets from tonight:

I continue to have this issue, it happens across a few different shows. I’m going to try removing my older HD Homerun from my DVR and see if the situation resolves.

Removing the HD Homerun Dual from the mix of tuners seems to have not solved the problem so I’m going to add it back in.

I suppose the next step will be to remove my dvr completely from my plex install. I might spin up a new plex virtual machine and have that do DVR only to see if it has the same issues as well. Open to suggestions from anyone from plex on troubleshooting this.

I went back and tried removing the Dual from the set of tuners again and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Not sure what the bug in Plex is that causes the mix of 2 Connects and 1 Dual to have issues but it’s related to some change approximately when I started this thread because I used to not have any issues.

I haven’t seen any more dual recordings since I removed the HD-Homerun DUAL from my set of tuners. I’m going to try re-adding it after I upgrade the server to 1.16.3.1433 and see if the problem reoccurs.

I added it back in and the dual recordings have started back up. At this point I’m removing it from my recorder list. Hopefully someone in plex will take note of this and see if they can resolve the issue.
