DVR transcoding stalls at "100% Recorded"

I restarted my Plex and the show I recorded appeared

same here. if you restart ONE show appears. once it gets stuck in the loop however all the other ones that were sent to the .grab folder are lost.

It’s amazing how long DVR has been in the works, yet PMS still can’t seem to consistently save a recording.

I am seeing this in 1.9.7.4460, also seems that alot of these shows its stuck transcoding, are not the full length.

Same issue with a clean install (OS and Plex) plus restoring /var/lib/plexmediaserver.
Convert Video While Recording: Off

  • First 3 recordings worked fine,
  • Next one failed (Plex Tuner Service.log: No available tuners found to start streaming channel),
  • Next two recordings (same show and channel as the 3rd) are sat at 100% and are blocking all future recordings as they still have the tuners locked.

At the time the first failed recording should have started this is in Plex Media Server.log (twice):

  • ERROR - Unable to find title for item of type 5
  • ERROR - [Transcoder] http://127.0.0.1:32600/devices/compound_device … : Server returned 404 Not Found
  • ERROR - JobManager: child process returned: 1 (Operation not permitted)
  • ERROR - DVR:Recorder: Part didn’t have an audio or a video stream.
  • ERROR - DVR:Recorder: Error 12 (There was a transcoder error) starting the record, shutting things down.
  • ERROR - DVR:Grabber: Starting media grab failed.

Followed by ERROR - [Transcoder] [NULL @ 0x24cd780] Junk in packet periodically throughout the recording,

Or, while writing the above comment both hung records have suddenly completed successfully:

  • First one 1 hour 45 minutes after finishing, however, instead of being 1 hour long it is 37 minutes,
  • Second one 45 minutes after finishing, however, instead of being 1 hour long it is 10 minutes.

New to plex recordings… Same issue here - Windows10 - Says Recording 100% complete, but shows nothing in the folder, shows 0 bytes for the .grab folder. Unreliable… If I reboot plex everything is fine. It’s fine until the show I’ve been waiting all week to record fails, and all subsequent recordings fail(100% complete msg type fail).

Im on Version 1.10.0.4523 and its back to doing this issue again. At this point i just wish WMC would come to W10. That worked for 10 years for me with out issues.

It was happening to me when I had Convert Video While Recording turned on. Turning it off seemed to fix the problem for awhile until it just happened again on version 1.10.1.4602 on macOS.

I’m having the same issue with the stuck completed recordings with no transcoder on the Shield TV. It doesn’t seem to happen on certain channels but does on others. Seems to be pretty consistent with only getting stuck on some of the channels. Any ideas on fixing this yet?

I’m getting this too, on and off since September or so. Everything had actually been going well since mid-November when I did a firmware update on my HD HomeRun Extend. I also started experimenting with Commercial Removal as well in early December. I turned that off a couple days ago since it had truncated some shows (on specific channels), and then the whole Red Dot issue came back. Shows would say they were recorded but would be just a few minutes or seconds long or half what they should be. Then tonight X-Files did the Red Dot thing. 100% completed, but not showing up for watching.

I rebooted and the X-Files that was hung at 100% for the last hour or so now comes up in the GUI as a new show to watch. However it’s only 42 minutes long and I had turned off Commercial Removal prior to that (but had not rebooted). I’m guessing it still did the commercial removal and got hung at the end until the reboot cleared it. I won’t know if the commercials were removed properly until I watch the show tomorrow with the wife.

Weird though. When the machine rebooted, Plex Status said, ā€œFinished processing The X-Files S11 E01ā€

The show I recorded tonight, that’s 42 minutes long now, was episode E02!

S11 E01 was last week…

???

same thing with QNAP
Also if I stop the server when it has been at 100% for 2h after the show ended, most of the time the show is lost after I restart the server

Same issue here with Windows Server 2016 & the latest Plex beta 1.11.1.4730. I am transcoding to a ramdisk and finding that every so often recordings stop and future recording do not start. I just recently started looking at this and have found that several transcodes in the ramdisk have stopped and have not been cleaned up. After deleting these transcode files and rebooting the server new recordings will start again. Still trying to figure out what is going on.

Same is occurring week after week. Is there someone looking into this issue?

After recordings working fine for a couple months, now I’m having issues again. Tonight’s X-Files episode has been stuck at 100% for an hour.

@steve-holt looks like you are running 1.10.1.4602. Have you tried any of the 6 newer Beta versions released since December, with fixes for problems found related to the 100% issue.

FWIW, I’ve been running the beta Version 1.11.1.4760 and my recordings have been working comparably to the last stable DVR release of 1.6.1.

Haven’t tried .4768 that just came out yet, but will this weekend.

I’m using 1.11.3.4803 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and still seeing this issue. It went into this state on the second recording after upgrading to 4803 (I got one successful recording). Happy to help debug this at low levels if needed (I’m a software engineer).

I’ve attached my logs.

I am still having this same problem. Anyone find a fix for it? I would like to stop transcoding when recording.

I am also having this issue
Win10 - Version 1.11.3.4803
