DVR Unwatched Episodes label is incorrect

Long time Plex user who recently started using the DVR features as a replacement for EyeTV. I have another post going with a recording issue I am experiencing. Now I am running into another issue I was hoping for some help with. I performed a clean install of Plex server from scratch (macOS 10.14) and setup all sources fresh. The problem is that the unwatched episode label is incorrect on almost every DVR entry.

Here are some screenshots to illustrate the issue I am seeing.

SNL shows 6 unwatched episodes and only 1 episode exists:

Entertainment Tonight shows 13 unwatched episodes and only 1 episode exists:

Here are all my currently recorded DVR shows. Every unwatched number is incorrect except for the Peanuts entry which correctly is showing as 1 episode.

Does anybody else experience this issue? Is this a known bug? Maybe there is a setting I am missing that is showing the upcoming number of shows instead of the number of recorded shows.

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you and take care.

Nobody else is seeing this issue? I seems like a pretty obvious bug. Again this is a clean install of Plex on macOS 10.14. My buddy is running a Plex DVR on macOS 10.11 without this issue. Is there a known bug that is being worked on?

What is the best way to connect with Plex developers or support? This forum doesn’t seem to be the best place to post for technical support.

I am seeing the same issue.

Thanks for chiming in pbenzschawel. Have you always had this issue since using the Live TV/DVR function or is this something that has recently started happening?

What version of Plex Server are you running and what version of OS it is running on?

Noticed another interesting development. In testing the Plex iOS apps, I was not able to see anything in my DVR TV share. This is the same share showing inaccurate labels. As a test I created a new DVR TV Shows share and put in one show. This show had a correct label and was able to see properly through the iOS app. Maybe there is an odd issue with the name DVR TV or some other complicating matter I am missing.

pbenzschawel, what is the name of your DVR share that is showing inaccurate labels? Can you test making a new share for a few DVR recordings with a new share name and see if that resolves the issue?

No it just started within the last month doing one of the last updates. I’m running the latest version of PMS 1.13.9 on Ubuntu Server 18.04.1

I’m seeing incorrect unwatched stats only in my DVR library across all clients and Plex/web. It only seems to be incorrect in the root of my DVR directory. Once I go into the seasons of the shows, it shows the correct number. I cannot fix the shows that are wrong by marking as watched/unwatched, however the shows that have the correct stats I can…

My issue is very similar. Creating a new share and copying over the data fixed the incorrect episode numbers, however, on a new DVR recording, it still has the incorrect number. Steve is showing 10 episodes when only 1 exists. Marking as watched / unwatched has no effect. It really seems that it is showing the number of upcoming episodes available through the EPG data rather than the actual episodes in the library.

Yeah I’m seeing that as well.

  • Last man standing (20) - only 1 unwatched in library

  • Price is Right (10) - only 1 unwatched in library.

When I search those shows in guide they show 20 & 10 available.

I suspect that this is the problem reported here Houston, we have a problem (library doesn't load) and a few other threads

It has been referred to the development team

Yup! I reported this last week. It’s a nasty one. I solved it temporary by moving to the public build. You can also manually fix this issue by moving the folder out of the tv show library, rescan, add it back in, rescan. That manual fix also stops the crashing from happening on iOS devices.

Thanks for the advice for getting round the problem. I suspect this would need to be done periodically as the issue may arise again when new recorded shows are added

I am running the Public releases and not the Beta release of Plex server and I am still having this issue. It also creates the connecting issue from Plex running on iOS. I am getting the Houston, we have a problem error on iOS for the DVR TV Shows share but not for any of the other shares.

can you double check. The info on plex.tv for your server shows it as running 1.13.9.5439-7303bc002 which is beta

sa2000, you are correct, I am running version 1.13.9.5439. I do have the Server update Channel setting set to Public and not Beta, this is why I assumed I was running the public version.

If logs go back to the time it updated to 1.13.9 I can look into how the update to beta happened

I just noticed that I am experiencing this as well. One of my shows is reporting two unwatched episodes, when there is only one recording that has been watched. This is a brand new show, and only one episode has aired thus far.

sa2000, I just built this Plex server fresh using the server download from the website. I am a Plex Pass subscriber so maybe that is why I have the beta version. I still find it odd that my server setting is set to Public and not Beta but I am still running the Beta. Maybe this is an issue that should be looked at as well. I would rather run the more vetted Public builds for stabilities sake.

Another interesting find, there is another Plex server on my same network. This Plex server does not exhibit this issue with the incorrect episode number labels and it is running the same 1.13.9.5439 version of Plex server.

If it would be of use, I can provide logs from both Plex servers. Please let me know what I can provide or test to be of help.

It is not an issue - the update channel is for the auto update : download process - anything you download manually and install manually is outside the scope of this setting and the setting does not apply

When you download from plex.tv/downloads there is a switch button on the web page to select beta Plex Pass or not

This is the download that I used from the website. It says nothing about beta and I did not wish to run the beta. Again, I also have another Plex server running the same version on the same network not exhibiting this issue. I am still confused as to what actually is causing it.

Here is the exact download link I used, no mention about beta anywhere:
