So far I am using dvblogic as dvr on my NAS. I am currently testing Plex.
With dvblogic it is possible to start watching a recorded tv show, while still recording it.
Is this possible with Plex, too?
It was always nice, when coming home late, to start to watch the TV show while recoding still goes on. A kind of time shift feature.
Yes, this is possible. If you attempt to play an episode that is recording (using the guide, or the on right now hub), you should be prompted to watch from start, or watch live.
In THEORY that is correct but in practice it fails more often than not and has issues with time shifting. The problems have been reported for a LONG time with no fix in sight.
Up until recently it was working great for me, but at some point during the past few updates, it performs horribly on all devices and even the server computer itself. Seems to start playback at random points and unable to start from the beginning. Hopefully, this is high on the priority list to fix. Major annoyance as is.
When are they going to fix the the DVR feature? We are unable to watch DVR recordings from the beginning while its recording. This was working once upon a time.
I’m using a NAS Synology DS218+, PMS version 1.15.4.994. I tried plex media player on the computer and on the Amazon Fire Stick with same result. It prompts me if I want to start from the beginning, but its start live. It worked at one time, but some reason, its not anymore. When is this going to be fixed? Thanks!
Unfortunately, I’m not able to give an ETA on when it will be fixed, but investigation is ongoing, and work is continuing to be done to improve the DVR and Live TV feature.
I am using 1.16.3.1402 and this issue hasn’t been resolved. There are several posts about this issue in these forums being replied to by Plex personnel, are you guys working together on this? I see posts from your CTO and Co-Founder elan and Team Member MovieFan.Plex
I wouldn’t feel too confident in investing in a subscription when The Plex support system has degraded substantially. Especially around one of the key issue of not being able to watch an in progress DVR recording. There are several threads complaining about this bug and several Plex Team members responding with claims that they are looking into it and having no response or updates afterwards. Has Plex gotten too big; are they not big enough, or have they simply lost focus? Do they have the resources to fix these bugs, let alone provide transparency to divulge what they are doing to resolve it.
Investigations are ongoing, but the root cause hasn’t been found yet. There’s ongoing work, but nothing to share that impacts users. I think we’ve been quite transparent in where things are at, and what’s going on. Some people are working directly on it, and others here are simply providing information.
I appreciate your response. I am glad that your team is looking into it. I hope you can see my point about the lack of response though. It does not instill confidence when the posts replying that the issue is being looked into are not updated for a long period of time and in it’s place are more reports of the bug still remaining by your customers. I do understand that you don’t want to give false hope but the lack of information just makes things worse.
