Easy instructions for library sharing?

From time to time I want to share my library with someone new to PLEX. They don’t have any media of their own so they don’t need to download the server software or create any media libraries of their own.
I used to have a form email that I would send that walked them through setting up a PLEX account, sending me an invite and then I share my library with that person.
It seems that these instructions no longer are valid - it has been some time since I did this.
Without a library of their own, they can’t select “Share Library” to send me an invite. I guess the process is now for me to send them one once they set up their account.

My ask…

Does anyone have a nice text set of instructions that they send to friends when they do this that is easy for them (and you) to follow AND up to date with how PLEX works now? Or word doc or a PDF or anything? Just trying to tap into the mass resources of this forum to come up with something better than the out of date set of instructions I have.

Thanks

Not they must invite you, but the other way around.
This has always been the case.
You want to share your media with them, not the other way around.

They don’t even need an account for you to send them an invite.
You’ll just need to tell them that as part of accepting your invitation, they’ll be asked to create a Plex account. That… and to resist the offer to download / install a server of their own.

My mom is literally not a technology/computer person and that did the job for her

If you want something more fancy… include some links to support articles (not sure that’ll help)

  1. I’m about to invite you to my Plex Media Server.
What is Plex? | Plex Support
  2. You will receive an e-mail that contains a link to confirm this invitation. Click on that link… this will open a website and you will be asked to create a Plex Account. You can use an existing Google, Facebook or Apple ID to do so or create one of your own by clicking on sign up with email below the Sign in button
    Plex Accounts | Plex Support
  3. Once you have your account, please configure it to meet your preferences under Settings > Account
    • Set your preferred Language for the Web UI
    • Select your preferred language in the Audio & Subtitle Settings
    • Enable or disable the Plex Newsletter
    • Do not click on Delete your account unless you really want to delete it
  4. Plex provides a number of free online media sources (some of them are ad supported). You can enable or disable those as you like – maybe you give them a test before disabling them right away
    https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/online-media-sources
  5. You should now be able to see my library under https://app.plex.tv/desktop – you might want to bookmark this page
  6. There’s no need to download a Plex Media Server (unless you want to start organizing your own media)
  7. There’s no need to buy a Plex Pass (while Plex will certainly appreciate your money)

  8. Beyond “Plex Web” there’s other players you can use to watch my media or the Plex online media sources…
    • You can download a dedicated app for your computer (it’s free)
Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More
    • You can download a home theater version of the desktop player (also free)
This one is a little tricker to get – there’s a download link in the latest post of their forum
      Plex Media Player
    • There’s apps for your TV (Apple TV, Android TV, Roku, some smart TVs – also free)
    • There’s apps for your mobile devices (phones, tablets) – those are available in the respective app stores… however they’re not free (there’s a one-time charge of approx. 5$ unless you have a Plex Pass)
  9. You will find all sorts of useful information on each of the players on their homepage

  10. You can do me a favor and try to play the media in Original Quality whenever you can… this will help me keep my electrical bill under control – if you bring my server to its knees, I might need to kick you out (or worse, throttle your streaming quality)
  11. Please stick to the rules and e.g. don’t share your account with the videos I’m sharing with you.
This is my Plex Media Server. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Plex Media Server is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Plex Media Server is empty. Without my server, I have nothing to watch (well… sort of). I must properly treat my Plex Media Server.
[skipping the part about shooting the enemy before he kills me… that doesn’t properly translate to a media server]
Before God I swear this creed: my Plex Media Server and myself are defenders against Corona driven boredom, we are the master of a lonely evening on my couch, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no more videos to watch. Amen

  12. Enjoy

PS: Otto answered faster on that first part… I was just too lazy to rewrite my post
